The healthiest gardens start with paying attention.
Today is International Day of Plant Health, and itâs a quiet reminder that the best thing we can do for our plants is notice them. The leaves that are telling us something. The soil thatâs drier than yesterday. The cold front coming in on Thursday.
That last one is why weâve just added Weather inside Gardenstead. Not just a forecast â a weather feature built for gardeners. Frost coming? Itâll tell you to cover tender plants before sunset. Heat stress ahead? Water early, shade the young ones. Heavy rain incoming? Pause the watering, check drainage.
Itâs weather that speaks gardener.
Open the free app (link in bio) and have a look â youâll find Weather it in your Grow tab. And tell us in the comments: whatâs one plant youâre paying extra attention to this week?

The best gardens begin below the surface.
For International Compost Awareness Week, weâre thinking about the humble work happening in our soil.
The scraps. The leaves. The coffee grounds. The worm castings. The half-finished compost pile that may not look like much yet, but is already becoming something useful.
Compost does not need to be perfect to matter.
Whether you have a worm farm, a compost bay, a tumbler, a bucket on a balcony or a pile tucked behind the shed, you are returning something valuable to the garden.
Better soil changes what plants can do.
This week, weâd love to see your compost setup inside Gardenstead. Finished, messy, tiny, large, new or long-running. Share it in the Compost group and tell us what youâre trying.

Itâs International Compost Awareness Week đą
And here at Gardenstead, we keep coming back to how much of a garden sits below what we actually see.
Compost is part of that.
Not in a big, visible way. More in how things hold together over time.
Soil that doesnât dry out as quickly.
Beds that feel more alive when youâre working in them.
Plants that seem to find their rhythm a bit more easily.
Itâs subtle, but it builds.
This week, weâre not just interested in the best ways to compost. Weâre also interested in where it fits in your garden, or where it might, as part of how you build and support your soil over time.
If youâre already doing something, weâd love to hear it.
If youâre not, maybe just start noticing what youâre throwing away, and where it could go instead.
Did you know Gardenstead has discussion groups? Thereâs a compost group inside the app where people are sharing what theyâre actually doing, in real time đż
If youâd like to explore it, download the app via the link in our bio and have a look around.

What if Gardenstead was not just somewhere you visited, but something you grew?
We are seeing more and more gardeners using Gardenstead to create their own gardening hubs. Allotment groups connecting. Gardening clubs sharing events. Local gardeners finding one another. Seed swaps being organised. Resources being shared. Conversations growing into real communities.
And that is exactly what Gardenstead was built for.
If you run an allotment, a gardening club, a community garden, or even just a small group of gardening friends, Gardenstead gives you one place to bring it all together.
You can
đą Start your own discussion group
đą Upload resources and useful links
đą List your events
đą Organise seed swaps
đą Invite your members
đą Connect through Around Me, people and places
đą Build your own local gardening community
There is something powerful about having one place dedicated entirely to gardens and gardeners. No fragmentation. No competing noise. Just people who love growing, sharing, learning, and connecting.
We have built the space. But you are growing it. đŞ´
With some exciting new features just around the corner, there has probably never been a better time to start building your own gardening community.
đť Do you run a gardening group, allotment, or community garden?
đť Looking for a place to bring gardeners together?
This is your invitation.
Download Gardenstead (link in bio), start your own hub, and bring your garden community together.
And if you would like help getting started, feel free to send me, Natasha, a DM. I am always happy to help you get started.

An 80sqm north facing garden in Frankfurt.
Limited sun. Challenging soil. A damp, shady corner.
And still, they want to grow food. With their four year old. Watching what works, noticing the earthworms, wondering what might be possible.
We really love #gardensteadmakeover entries like this.
Because this is where so many gardens actually begin. Not with perfect conditions, but with a space that is a bit tricky, and the decision to start anyway.
There is also something lovely about working with what is already there. Leaning into shade. Trying mushrooms. Building soil slowly. Letting the garden evolve over time.
We have been reading through the #GardensteadMakeover entries and what stands out is not just the gardens, but the intention behind them. People thinking about how they want to live, how they want to grow food, how they want to spend time outdoors with their families.
If this were your space, what would you do first?
And if you have been thinking about entering, there is still time.
Entries for the Gardenstead Makeover close April 19.
To enter:
đ˛ Download the Gardenstead app (link in bio)
Share your garden and your hopes for the space
Use #gardensteadmakeover so we can find your entry
You can also invite friends to join you in the app, follow along, and help spread the word. The more people who share, the more gardens we get to see, and the more inspiration flows.
Letâs make over one garden at a time.
There is something incredibly powerful about watching a space begin to change.
Not finished.
Not perfect.
Just the beginning.
This #gardensteadmakeover entry is a long, narrow space, already holding potatoes, and a vision for something more. Vegetables. Pollinator friendly flowers. A garden that supports both food and wellbeing.
After losing everything in a fire a few years ago, this garden is not just about growing plants. It is about rebuilding, slowly, within a tight budget, and finding hope again through the act of growing.
These are the kinds of entries we have been reading every day. Honest. Thoughtful. Full of possibility.
And there is still time.
Entries for the Gardenstead Makeover close on 19 April.
That means there are just 12 days left.
Have you entered yet?
What space are you dreaming about?
What would you create if you had the chance?
Download the app (link in bio). Share your entry, tag it, and use #gardensteadmakeover so we can find it.
We are loving seeing the dreams, the reimagining, and the possibilities taking shape across the community. đą

Seed swapping is happening on Gardenstead⌠and we couldnât be more pleased. đą
Seeds saved. Labelled. Packed up. Sent off to other gardeners, and even to family. This is exactly the kind of quiet, generous sharing we hoped would grow here.
Because when gardeners swap seeds, weâre not just sharing plants.
Weâre sharing what thrives.
What survives.
What works in real gardens.
This is how resilient, locally adapted gardens are built, one small envelope at a time.
If youâre on Gardenstead, head to Seed Swap and see whatâs being shared. You might find something perfect for your garden, or someone looking for exactly what youâre growing.
And if youâre not on Gardenstead yet, this is your sign.
Join us. Start saving seeds. Start swapping. Start connecting.
Because the more we share, the stronger our gardens become.

Your gardening community might be closer than you think. đ
Gardenstead is built to connect gardeners globally, but also locally, and Around Me is one of the features that brings that to life.
Inside the app, you can explore growers and places of gardening interest near you, from 1 km to 50 km away. That might mean discovering other Gardenstead members in your area, or finding nearby nurseries, gardens and other useful local places. đŞ´
When you join Gardenstead, youâre also placed into your USDA growing zone, which helps connect you with gardeners growing in similar climatic conditions. So the experience is both local and relevant, close to home and connected to the bigger picture.
Itâs a simple idea, but a powerful one:
find your people, find good places, and help grow the gardening world around you. đą
And if your area feels quiet right now, you can help shape it by inviting friends, neighbours and fellow growers into the app, or by suggesting places that matter in your local gardening community.
Gardenstead now has members across 125 countries, and Around Me is one of the ways that global community becomes real at ground level. đ

Some of the best things in gardening are passed from one person to another. đż
A handful of saved seed.
A cutting that struck beautifully.
A spare seedling.
A variety you have been trying to find for years.
That is exactly why we built âSeed Swapâ into Gardenstead.
It gives gardeners a dedicated place to offer, request, and share seeds and plants with other people who truly get it. Not buried in a generic feed. Not lost in comments. Just a simple, more connected way to pass things on.
Whether you are saving seed from a bumper crop, sharing divisions from your garden, or looking for something special to grow next, Seed Swap is there to help make those connections happen, easily.
Real gardeners. Real sharing. Real gardens in progress.
If you have not joined Gardenstead yet, now is a very good time. Download the app (link in bio), head into the groups, and explore Seed Swap.
What would you swap first?
