The G̱a̱mksimoon - Huk Aat / G̱a̱woo Üüla single is out now and blasting out of speakers worldwide!!! (If your platform search engine is having trouble with the Sm’algya̱x language find it through the link in our bio!) Songwriter, singer, and guitar hero Jeremy Pahl gives us this explanation and translation of Gawoo Üüla: “This song is about the protocols Ts’msyen seal hunters have been passing down forever. I’m lucky enough to have learned about this from my uncles. A long time ago our people communicated with the seal people and made this protocol. The song lyrics themselves are pretty self explanatory. I hunt seals in this way today. It’s a great nutritious and delicious food. I like to render the fat into oil to use for frying fish or mixing with berries as a dessert.” G̱awoo Üüla Nii –wil lii nook–a üüla da la̱x loop ‘Ap– ksa la̱x aks— dm wil g̱a̱woot ‘Nii –di la haw ga nibiipsgu da k’oy Adat– ‘nahaws dip— gwa̱sda asda la’ooy Gyiloom dza ḵ’o’ol wil gawoot łaa gyigyedi Dzida ‘wah amuksn da goo ha’wa̱łksit ‘wiileeksm g̱oop dm sa yooyksa iłee– da la̱x loop Dm gwaantga baask ada dm xaayga xsoot See where a seal is laying on the rock Truly, only on the water they can be hunted That’s what my uncles have said to me And the ancestors have said this since time immemorial Don’t forget the ways of the old seal hunters If you don’t listen to what is sacred Big waves will wash the blood from on the rock The wind will blow and the canoe will capsize G̱a̱mksimoon - Huk Aat / G̱a̱woo Üüla YCQP-003

G̱a̱mksimoon - Huk Aat / G̱a̱woo Üüla single is available now on digital platforms - and the 7 inches are shipping soon!!!! Songwriter, singer, and guitar maestro Jeremy Pahl on Huk Aat: “Huk Aat (fisher person) is a song inspired in part by hearing stories about my great grandmother Emily (traditional name: Ts’its’amtii). People said she used to single-hand driftnet fish and pull both the cork and sinker lines herself, and take off the fish, all at once. I took up that style of fishing for salmon in 2021 and have never looked back. I love netting for salmon by hand. Ts’msyen people have been netting fish for millennia, and doing it by hand makes me feel closer to my ancestors.” Ła dm maaksayu na aadu da k’ala ksyen Luk’wil t’myaa wil awlksa na xsooyu K’ala łooła hoon da yagwa miilga la̱xg̱a̱n Akadi hasag̱iył dm luhoksi Ap Luk’wil di t’iiltu ts’ap’ayu Wudi hoyagida na an’ons– agwi nts’iits’u a lip an’onu Ła ts’apayu– na aadu dm hoyu na gatgyeda łaagyigyet Noosdp heelda hoon ‘magu Wayi wah ła dm gyik maaksayu I’m about to set my fishing net on the Skeena River. My canoe is drifting very quickly The fish are swimming up and the corks on my net are dancing I don’t want my net to get snagged ! I am pulling in my net really fast My hands are like that of my great grandmothers When I pull in my fishing net I will use the strength of my ancestors Wow, I’ve caught a whole lot of salmon ! Now then, I’m about to set again

G̱amksimoon - Ḵ’ap Ha’yin is streaming now! Let it rip! “Ḵ’ap Ha’yin - “flip over” in Sm’algya̱x is a song inspired by an event that many people in Prince Rupert remember, although it’s difficult to find any information about it. The riot of 1979 was a result of Ts’msyen people reaching a breaking point in terms of how terrible they’d been treated by the RCMP. That treatment extends to the present day, as police brutality against innocent Indigenous people’s remains rampant. Back in ‘79, there were only eyewitness accounts, and stories from those who participated. The song itself is inspired by someone who took part in the riot, breaking his friend & his wife out of a police cruiser, and proceeding to flip the car over with a mob of people. They flipped 4 police cars over that evening on 3rd Avenue in Prince Rupert. Historically, Ts’msyen have had plenty of “enough is enough” moments like this, going back to the riot of 1958, and during the early 20th century with the torching of Hudson’s Bay Company posts, churches, and the Skeena River blockade in the late 19th century to name a few. This song shines light on the brilliance of active Ts’msyen resistance to colonial oppression.” - Wil Uks Batsga G̱akaaw (Jeremy Pahl) Gyiin Na̱xnox album coming July 10th from You’ve Changed Records! G̱A̱MKSIMOON ON TOUR June 4 - Lawnya Vawnya Music Fest, St. John’s, Newfoundland July 3-5 - Smithers Midsummer Music Festival, Smithers, BC July 17 - Vancouver Folk Festival, Jericho Beach, Vancouver, BC July 19 - Harrison Hot Springs Music Festival, Harrison Hot Springs, BC August 7 - The Shop, Slocan, BC August 8-9 - Narrows Creek Folk Fest, Procter, BC

G̱a̱mksimoon Unleash “Ḵ'ap Ha'yin” - A Defiant Soundtrack of Ts’msyen Resistance and Living Memory G̱a̱mksimoon’s new single “Ḵ'ap Ha'yin” arrives as a powerful piece of musical storytelling that underscores how history continues to live on through community memory, even when official records fall silent or incomplete. Translating to “flip over” in Sm’algya̱x, the song revisits the 1979 Prince Rupert riot, a moment that remains deeply embedded in Ts’msyen collective memory. @gamksimoon

We’re stoked to announce that we’ll have a full length record out this summer! The usual buddies @dannybellmusic and @karlwyssen at the helm of the rhythm section are on it, of course. But also, some other wonderful buddies sang on the record too! I won’t give away all the deets.. but I do want to say that @afterlife_studios_ is the friggin best. We tracked the drums, bass and guitar live off the floor, straight to their gorgeous 2” tape Tascam machine for that ever so sweet analog charm. John Rahm is a the deadliest engineer around. We are super stoked on how it turned out, and with @pulp_city_pritchard at the mixing desk, it’s going to be the killerrrrr. AND.. as per usual, cuzzin @adziksm_gyipaayk reppin’ the Gitga’at nation is doing the album art. And it all wouldn’t have been possible without the support of @creativebcs #amplifybc T’oyaxsut ‘nüün!
