Most ā€œpreseason grindsā€ miss the stuff that actually shows up on the field. You hammer squats, sprints, and generic ā€œleg dayā€ā€¦ Then your knees hate you in July, and you get shook while playing defense. Here’s why this session looks the way it does, a Game Point Performance workout (that I coach): * Rotational box jumps + cable pressļæ½ Ultimate is a rotational sport. If you only train power in a straight line, you’re leaving free explosiveness on the table.ļæ½The box jumps teach your hips to load and explode in the angles you actually cut.ļæ½The cable press teaches you to create force from your legs and hips, then transfer it through your core into a throw. * Plate-elevated front squats + landmine pressļæ½ Your quads and knees take a beating in-season.ļæ½Heavy, slow eccentrics teach them to absorb force so you’re not just slamming joints every cut.ļæ½The landmine press forces your core to resist rotation while you press – exactly what happens when you cut hard and throw at the same time. * Half get‑ups, 4‑point rows, offset step‑upsļæ½ These are ā€œboringā€ until you realize they’re just layout shapes and cutting shapes under load.ļæ½Get‑ups = shoulder stability where you actually land.ļæ½4‑point rows = the back of the shoulder that keeps you from breaking down in August.ļæ½Offset step‑ups = single‑leg, cross‑body strength in the exact pattern that protects your ACL. Stop training like a generic athlete and start training like an Ultimate player with a long season ahead.
