New work for the SD Rescue Mission. Watching these servants in action is incredible. I’ve engaged with homeless folks my whole life and have often wondered what the solution is for getting people off the streets. I think what the Mission is doing is the answer. Link in bio.
I completed an assignment for The Times a couple weeks ago. I photographed Francisco Duarte, an undocumented man who sold ice cream for 30 years, paid taxes, and sent his children to college. He had decided it was time to self-deport.
At one point he pulled me aside and showed me a video on his phone of himself giving away the last of his ice cream. He told me that it had always been his dream to one day give away his ice cream and just make the kids happy. Crushed me.

I had always thought ladders needed to be cast in metal or reinforced with crossbeams for structural stability. That quickly changed when I started traveling to countries like Cuba & Sri Lanka where folks there make great ladders with what they have access to! I also absolutely love tree houses so will always stop to snap a photo of a fun looking construction.
