Africa’s sports economy is entering a new era, one where the conversation is no longer only about talent, but about ownership, value creation, and long-term economic impact. On Friday, at the @africaceoforum_acf 2026 in Kigali, I had the privilege of joining H.E. @nellymukazayire and Ethiopis Tafara for a timely discussion on what it will take to transform Africa’s sports momentum into a true wealth-creation engine for the continent. Africa is no longer just a talent pipeline for global sports, the next chapter is about ownership: of platforms, infrastructure, media rights, data, brands, and the economic value created across the ecosystem. The opportunity is immense. The mission now is to build sustainable sports businesses capable of creating jobs, attracting investment, empowering youth, and ensuring that more of the value generated by African sport remains on the continent. The future of African sport is not only about competition. It is about economic transformation.

Honored to have joined the 2026 #GlobalSportsSummit in Washington, DC, a powerful convening of leaders shaping the future of sport, business, and impact, where I spoke on the evolving role of sport as a platform for leadership, opportunity, and global connection. My sincere thanks to Ian Gaffney and the Sports Leadership Institute team for bringing together such an inspiring and purposeful forum, and for creating a space that truly advances dialogue and collaboration at the highest level. A special congratulations to my dear friend Larry Miller, Chairman of @jumpman23 Jordan Brand, on receiving the Naismith Legacy Award, a recognition that could not be more deserved. From transforming Jordan Brand into a global powerhouse to championing second chances through @larrymiller_jump (JUMP, Justice & Upward Mobility Project), Larry’s journey is a testament to resilience, vision, and purpose beyond the game. This is what leadership looks like: world-class people delivering world-class impact. Thank you as well to DC Events for continuing to position Washington, DC as a global hub for sports leadership and innovation.

This #InternationalWomensDay, we celebrate the incredible women and girls shaping the present and the future of Africa through sport. At SEED and across the Basketball Africa League, we see every day how basketball can unlock leadership, confidence, and opportunity. What started as a vision to develop student-athletes has grown into a movement empowering young women to lead on and off the court. Since launching our girls program in 2013, the SEED Academy has helped develop young leaders while expanding access to education and opportunity through sport. From athletes and coaches to executives and mentors, women are redefining what leadership in sports looks like across the continent. Through initiatives like BAL4HER, mentorship programs, and leadership camps, the Basketball Africa League continues to invest in the next generation of women leaders in Africa’s sports ecosystem. Sport is more than a game. It is a platform for education, empowerment, and transformation. Today we celebrate all women using sport to break barriers and inspire the next generation. When women lead, the whole game changes.

Africa’s greatest asset is its energy, especially that of its youth. Investing in Africa’s sports and creative industries is about building platforms that convert talent into opportunity, culture into capital, and ambition into sustainable ecosystems. Powerful exchanges took place in London, on the sidelines of the @NBAEurope games at @Thebal business cocktail moderated by Emmanuel Ruhumuliza, alongside @MrEazi , Sol Campbell, Janet Karemera from @rcbrwanda and @FannyBourdetteDonon . When sport and creativity are structured with vision, they become engines of transformation, for Africa and its current and next generation.
