AMBISINISTER NOISE DRAWING
14th-30th May
A 3 week residency at GG by LIZ RÁCZ feat. DALE GORFINEL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On the 21st of May, Liz will be joined by collaborator and fellow artist and musician, Dale Gorfinkel FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY
A multi-instrumentalist, improvisor, instrument creator, installation artist, community facilitator, Dale’s work aims to reflect an awareness of the dynamic nature of culture & the value of listening as a mode of knowing people & places. He is interested in finding fresh ways of presenting and making music, bringing creative communities together & shifting perceived boundaries of scenes, styles & artforms. He is a musician with a radical approach to instrumental play and amongst his self-built instruments are footpump-powered synthesizers, modified trumpets, kinetic sculptures and wearable contraptions.
Dale has presented work across Australia and internationally, often in collaboration such as with the East African band Chikchika, Sounds Like Movement with Peter Fraser, and the masked collective Prophets. Other collaborators include Jim Denley, Peter Farrar, Aviva Endean, Youbi Lee, Andreas Siagian and Caitlin Franzmann. Dale is also the founder of Out Hear, providing inclusive sound-making and arts programs and mentoring, especially to those who experience disability and other barriers to access.
Originally from Melbourne, Australia, now based in the Grenoble region in France since 2009, Liz Rácz works across different media: installation, drawing, sound, printmaking, painting, writing, comics, video, animation and performance.
Delving into themes around perception, consciousness, repetition, mise en abyme, gesture and translation, feedback, and language modes her works often begin with an obsession.
The unification of sound and drawing is a key on-going work involving live drawing and sound performance: noise drawing — drawing directs the sound and the sound directs the drawing.
