송민재 작가의 개인전 〈Breathing Light〉가 5월 14일(목요일)부터 갤러리 모순에서 열립니다. 이번 전시는 물에 반응하는 물질, 폴리비닐 알코올(PVA)을 통해 형태가 형성되는 과정과 그 안에 머무는 시간을 조용히 바라봅니다. 가루는 물을 만나며 풀어지고, 얇은 막은 공기와 시간 속에서 서서히 긴장을 얻습니다. 그 과정에서 남겨진 수축과 흔들림은 형태를 고정하기보다, 스스로 균형을 찾아가는 상태로 남습니다. 이번 전시에서 처음 선보이는 ‘부채 조명’은 이러한 흐름이 빛과 만나는 작업입니다. 한지와 투명한 막이 겹쳐진 층은 빛을 머금고 흘리며, 안과 밖, 형태와 비형태의 경계를 조용히 흐립니다. — Song Minjae’s solo exhibition 〈Breathing Light〉 opens on May 14 (Thursday) at Gallery MOSOON. This exhibition quietly observes the process through which form takes shape, using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), a material that reacts to water, and the time that lingers within it. As powder meets water, it dissolves; thin membranes gradually gather tension in air and over time. The traces of contraction and subtle shifts that remain do not fix form, but allow it to settle into its own balance. The newly presented “fan lighting” series brings this process into dialogue with light. [A Spring Selection curated by Jina Han] 이번 주말, 지나 에리카의 오픈 스튜디오에서 모순이 함께합니다. 지나 에리카는 광화문으로 이전한 모순의 첫 시작을 가장 가까이에서 함께 만들어준 소중한 존재입니다. (*모순 오프닝 PR 총괄) 새로운 공간이 처음 문을 열던 순간의 공기와 긴장, 그리고 그 시간을 함께 지나온 JINA ERICA의 스튜디오에서 이번에는 모순이 작은 풍경 하나를 더합니다. 이번 자리에는 한지나 디렉터의 시선에서 큐레이팅한 구진인, 정현우, 한대웅 작가의 전통 도자 작업들이 놓입니다. 서로 다른 흙과 시간, 그리고 손의 감각이 머문 작업들은 가구와 러그, 주얼리와 슈즈 사이에 자연스럽게 스며들고, 초여름의 공기와 함께 조용한 장면을 만들어냅니다. 오래 곁에 두고 싶은 물건들이 지닌 느린 아름다움과 그 안에 담긴 감각들을 천천히 바라봐 주세요. - [일정] 5/16–17(토–일) 12–6 PM / Public Open [장소] 서울시 중구 장충단로 6길 5, 3층 JINA ERICA 오피스

이번 전시에서 가장 먼저 소장된 송민재 작가의 플로어 부채 조명. 밤이 깊어질수록 모순이 자리한 골목은 천천히 어둠 속으로 가라앉고, 그 안에서 빛은 더욱 또렷한 존재로 남게 됩니다. 그래서 이번 전시 기간 동안 이 작품은 1층에 두고, 24시간 내내 불을 밝힌 채 공간을 조용히 지키고자 합니다. 혹여 늦은 밤 이 골목을 지나게 된다면, 잠시 멈춰 그 빛을 바라봐주셨으면 좋겠습니다. 양일간 함께해주셔서 진심으로 감사드립니다. 주말 역시 관객분들을 맞이할 준비를 모두 마쳤습니다. - The first work to be acquired from this exhibition was Song Minjae’s floor fan light. As the night deepens, the alley where MOSOON resides slowly sinks into darkness, and within it, the light remains as an even more distinct presence. For the duration of the exhibition, this work will remain on the ground floor, quietly keeping the space illuminated throughout the day and night. If you happen to pass through this alley late at night, we hope you will pause for a moment and look toward the light. Thank you sincerely for being with us over the past two days. [D-1] 송민재 작가의 신작, 부채 조명 시리즈. 가장 위에는 PVA 소재로 이루어진 얇은 면이 놓이고, 그 아래로는 전통 한지와 전구가 차례로 겹쳐집니다. 빛은 그 층 사이를 천천히 통과하며, 은은하고 부드러운 표정을 만들어냅니다. 대나무대는 먹으로 칠해 깊이를 더했고, 중간에는 명주실을 둘러 섬세하게 마감했습니다. 이번 전시를 위해 준비된 부채 조명(테이블) 시리즈는 단 6점. 내일 처음 공개됩니다. - Song Minjae’s new fan light series. A thin PVA surface rests at the very top, layered above traditional hanji and a light source beneath. As the light slowly passes through each layer, it creates a soft and subtle expression. The bamboo frame is finished with black ink, while silk thread delicately wraps the center as a final detail. Only six table fan lights were created for this exhibition. 5월 개인전을 앞두고 작가와의 인터뷰와 사진 촬영을 모두 마쳤습니다. 이번에는 한 번도 접해본 적 없는 신소재를 다루는 작업실에서, 마치 실험실과도 같은 공간 속에서 시간을 보냈습니다. 작업이 시작되는 순간과 그 안에 담긴 생각들, 그리고 그가 바라보는 세계에 대해 차분히 이야기를 나눌 수 있었습니다. — Ahead of the solo exhibition in May, we have completed both the interview and photo shoot with the artist. This time, we visited a studio that felt almost like a laboratory, where he works with materials we had never encountered before. We spent time speaking about the moment his work begins, the thoughts embedded within it, and the world he contemplates through his practice. — Documented by YB Kim

정수경 작가의 유리 평면 작업 시리즈 <Relational Beauty> 두 점이 모순에 도착했습니다. 스튜디오 니콜슨 전시에서 선보인 작업의 연장선 위에서, 빛과 유리가 만들어내는 관계의 결이 조용히 이어집니다. 빛이 스치는 순간마다 미묘하게 달라지는 표정, 서촌의 시간과 지금의 계절에 자연스럽게 스며드는 작업입니다. — Two works from Chung Sukyung’s glass panel series <Relational Beauty> have arrived at MOSOON. Extending from the works presented in the Studio Nicholson exhibition, the quiet interplay between light and glass continues to unfold. 스튜디오 니콜슨과 함께한 이번 전시는 ‘여성’이라는 주제와 브랜드가 지닌 조용한 태도를 중심으로 시작되었습니다. 무엇을 보여줄 것인가보다, 그 감각을 어떻게 공간 안에 머물게 할 것인가를 고민했고, 그 과정 속에서 정수경 작가의 유리 작업을 통해 1층 공간에 또 하나의 층위를 더하고자 했습니다. 차갑고 투명한 물성 위에 스며드는 빛과 밀도는 스튜디오 니콜슨이 말하는 절제된 아름다움과 맞닿아 있었고, 그 안에서 서로 다른 요소들이 하나의 분위기로 이어지기를 바랐습니다. Behind the scenes에는 그 감각을 만들어가기 위한 과정과 선택들이 담겨 있습니다. - This exhibition with Studio Nicholson began with a quiet reflection on the theme of “woman.” Rather than focusing on what to show, we considered how that sensibility could reside within the space. Through the glass works of Chung Sukyung, we sought to bring that atmosphere into the ground floor. 조용히 쌓여온 시간 끝에, 박종진 작가의 전시가 오늘 마지막 장을 넘겼습니다. 겹겹이 쌓인 색과 결 사이로 스며든 시간은, 머무는 이들의 시선 위에 오래도록 잔상을 남기며 이 공간을 천천히 채워왔습니다. 이번 전시를 통해 자신의 시간과 깊이를 기꺼이 내어주신 작가님께 깊이 감사드리며, 그 시간을 함께 걸어주신 모든 분들께도 진심으로 감사의 마음을 전합니다. 특히 곧 싱가포르에서 열리는 LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize에서, 이 여정의 또 다른 장면으로 작가님께 따뜻한 소식이 닿기를 바라며, 부디 건강히 잘 다녀오시기를 바랍니다. 모순은 또 다른 시간으로 다시 인사드리겠습니다. - At the end of this quietly accumulated passage of time, Park Jongjin’s exhibition turns its final page today. 정동에서의 첫 개인전 이후 1년, 박종진 작가의 두 번째 개인전이 이제 마지막을 향해가고 있습니다. 그 사이 둘째를 맞이했고, 그 시간 또한 어느덧 한 해를 지나 다시 지금에 닿았습니다. 서울여자대학교의 교수이자, 한 사람의 남편, 그리고 두 아이의 아버지로서 그 어느 때보다 바쁜 시간을 지나고 있지만, 그의 작업은 오히려 더욱 깊어지고 있습니다. 남은 전시 기간은 이제 단 하루. 이 시간이 조금 더 오래 머물기를 바랍니다. - One year after his first solo exhibition in Jeong-dong, Park Jongjin’s second solo exhibition is now nearing its close. In the time between, he welcomed his second child, and that passage of time has quietly brought us back to this present moment. As a professor at Seoul Women’s University, a husband, and a father of two, he moves through one of the busiest periods of his life— yet his work continues to deepen all the more.
