Happy Tuesday Bookwyrms 📚🐉⠀
⠀
Although it’s been cloudy and rainy in Atlanta these past few days, we had some really good weather last week. And I managed to sneak in a few bookish pictures while working and relaxing by the pool. So here’s my first ever #PoolsideMiniReview. Special thanks to
@gallerybooks for gifting me this final copy of Thirsty Mermaids by Kay Leyh! ⠀
⠀
🌊 Mini-Review ⠀
⠀
Synopsis: Three Tipsy Mermaids (Pearl, Eez and Tooth) + Seaside Town + Magically disguising themselves as humans to get booze and being stuck on dry land = one heck of an adventure. ⠀
⠀
Quick Thoughts 💭 ⠀
⠀
🧜🏾♀️ This graphic novel was a hodge podge of some of my favorite things. Found Family (pod), Magic, and Diverse, Queer characters! ⠀
⠀
🧜🏾♀️ We watch as these characters become human and have to deal with real human struggles. Like finding jobs, and paying for housing. I promise you I never felt more like a mermaid than when reading this story. ⠀
⠀
🧜🏾♀️ For example, while job hunting, Pearl rants about jobs wanting experience but refusing to hire you for said experience. #relatableaf ⠀
⠀
🧜🏾♀️ Also, EeZ’s difficulty with being human, without magic, and being terribly homesick. All while trying to figure out a way for them to get back home was just … gut punch ⠀
⠀
🧜🏾♀️ But Vivi, was my favorite character! Vivi was their mother hen, and in my opinion, the sole reason the mermaids survived on land!⠀
⠀
Overall, I recommend reading this graphic novel! The illustrations and vibrant colors may be what draws you in. But it’s the story and the characters that keep you.⠀
