FOUND launches April 2, with an exhibition of paintings and mixed works by Seattle-based artist CHITO.
Known for his signature “Finesse Pup” icons, stemming from traditions of graffiti bombing and expressive cartoon characters, evolving into charged, coded hieroglyphics, blasted into a collage of textures.
His subversive appropriation of mediums blends self-made street culture with traditional fine art practices; from watercolor, oil, and charcoal drawing, to aerosol and spray, his work is hardly confined on canvas. The immediacy of his hand can be seen in marks that adorn the world outside galleries: on the street or on found materials seen on influential figures in pop culture, such as luxury bags, travel luggage, leather jackets, or even on stretched barbed wire. As he travels the world, an accumulation of his mark builds collective power like a social experiment, and finds new ways to embed and surprise in the wild.
His large-scale works have been exhibited in cities such as Tokyo, Paris, Mexico City, and Miami. He has created capsule collections with cult brands such as Givenchy and Supreme, and recently released a collaboration, including painted runway items, with Yohji Yamamoto at Paris Fashion Week.
