After a brief period of reflection and re-invention, Galactic Funk is back with our first party in our brand new jacket courtesy of our good friend Filmmaker. 🪩Similar to when we had Dopplereffekt in OT301 back in 2019, we’ve invited the legendary Alessandro Adriani to light the torch for this new era of GF. He’s backed by top-shelf selectors and producers 543ff, Fien, and our own Bertram. Music starts at 8 and switches off around 3. Entrance is free so come get yourself a spot early. It’s going to be packed.💧
It’s a chilly, misty Friday in Amsterdam where we welcome Zorz to the GF series. The Athens-born, Berlin-based selector is one of those key figures in the scene with great energy and taste in music. He is the co-founder of Untag records together with Kondaktor and a resident of a few crews. These include Prima Materia in Madrid, and the lauded Pi Electronics, a collective and record label hailing from Athens. They release music by artists like 3.14, co-founder of the label, JK Flesh, and others. When not performing at the annual Intergalactic FM Festival on the Dutch West Coast, he is doing the rounds at venues like About Blank, Temple in Athens, La Matriz, and many others. The recording is from a DJ set live at the Autonoma Industriale event in Berlin back in June 2023. His selection tells you all you need to know. Lock in
Clocking in the series for the week is Chino! The multi-talented artist is a music producer, live act, and graphics designer. He is a co-founder of the lauded Krakow-based We Are Radar collective and is part of the music production and audio-visual performance duo Radiation 30376 together with Olivia. His latest release ‘Common Odditty’ on the Marsman and Afra-run Pinkman sub-label, Mindri, adds to a list of solo releases on labels such as Uncanny Valley, shtum, and others. It’s been a period of touring with shows across Europe’s premier parties and a new set of upcoming releases over the next few months. Lock in for an hour of back-to-back left field bangers!
Keeping the caliber high on the GF series this week is Leroy Se Meurt. We’re big fans of the duo and enjoy their distinctive electro, post-punk, and EBM-infused style. You can find their work on the catalogs of labels such as Gooiland Electro, Lux Rec, and being released tomorrow on November 24th is their Voué à rouiller album on the mighty Mannequin Records. They’ve graced the stages of Ombra, Kalabalik, and many others. Their abrasive and hypnotic style is in full display during their 70-minute plus selection for the series. Lock in!
The GF series is back this week with Ayshel. The young, Athens-based DJ is part of the Stegi Radio team and hosts her show CALL NOW for over four years. Her show features artists such as Pi Electronics resident Zorz, LVRIN, and others. When she’s not playing Athens staples like Astron Bar, which sadly closed, she has been making the rounds at festivals like Healthy Summer Fest and others. Her selections are located somewhere between tribal beats, hypnotic melodies and industrial sounds. Her mix is no exception. Lock in for an hour from one of Athens’ hottest up-and-coming DJs.
We continue the GF series this week with one of the pillars of the Dutch electro scene, none other than DJ Overdose. Hailing from The Hague and based in Rotterdam, his story starts in the eighties. His vision was to create a vibe “where the subs are devastating and the beats are raw”. He underpins his work with booming Miami bass and draws on his love for 80s hip-hop to conjure up his signature style. He’s etched his mark on deeply loved and respected labels such as L.I.E.S., Creme Organization, Bordello A Parigi, Pinkman, Viewlexx, Murder Capital, his own RotterHague, and many others. Famously dexterous in the booth, DJ Overdose has well-honed skills that make him able to tear up a larger stage or connect with a more intimate crowd. He graces this series with a two and a half hour live recording at the Down The Rabbit Hole festival. Lock in!
We have Mowgli on the series this sunny autumn day. A true digger completely surrounded by vinyl during his Pinkman record store days, the Rotterdam-based selector is known for packing a crate with minimal wave, proto-EBM, unknown boogie and the noisier edges of Chicago house and early techno. Powered by Pontoon Bookings, he makes up regular appearances across the country including PIP, Blijdorp Festival, Poing, BIT, RadioRadio, Skatecafe & Weelde, and many others. With upcoming shows in Utrecht, Amsterdam and more, it's a perfect time to hear what to expect. Lock in for an hour plus of solid grooves expertly selected by Mowgli.
The series rages on this week with none other than Randstad! He is a producer and DJ alias of multidisciplinary artist Thomas van Linge. Aside from his many killer releases on the likes of Veyl, Pinkman Body Musick and many others, he is also the co-founder of well known labels such as BAKK, RUBBER, and the PLAFOND series. Although he is well known for his electro and EBM compositions, his talent and acumen know no bounds with more recent releases colouring outside of these lines. He's assembled a weaponry of techno bangers for the GF series with tracks by Stranger, Fresko, Lenson, Anetha, Peder Mannerfelt, Oscar Mulero, Schwefelgelb, Manny Dee, and many other. Lock - IN!
We're incredibly pleased to welcome Dissemblance to the GF series. She is a very talented and poetic artist that the entire GF team have been following for a while and had the pleasure of meeting in person at Intergalactic FM fest this year. You can check her lauded album “Centauresse” on the mighty L.I.E.S. records, following up her 2019 debut album "Over The Sand" for Mannequin Records. Her productions bring a variety of sounds and invite us to explore the full range of her musical dynamics, leading the listener into her universe where the border between dreams and reality blurs into one, with no tangible beginning or end. If you happen to be in Paris on Friday, December 8th, do not miss her Dissemblance Live at Petit Bain to enjoy the full experience. For the series, she has crafted a special session where she gives us a unique and magical mix out of her studio in Paris, incorporating exclusive vocals and Rhodes improvisations over 80 beautiful minutes of thoughtful and sensory music. She plays tracks from the 80s: Schleimer K, DZ Lectric & Anthon Shield, taking a funky turn with Girl Unit, to arrive to some dirty acid music by Beverly Hills 808303, ending with a solo rough Rhodes impro through the Moog Cluster Flux pedal. This mix is literally a special journey through a solid selection, poetic vocals and inventive jams. Don't take our word for it: Lock in!
It's a special weekend edition of GF with Alpha Sect. Hailing from Thessaloniki, Greece, Alpha Sect is a project by George McCall, which is focused on breaking electro patterns and pumping body music with serious punk influences. We witnessed a killer live performance at Intergalactic FM festival this year which left us speechless. He started his music career as a guitarist in the post-metal band Sleepstream with 2 albums on their track record and he is an active musician with participations in physical theatre performances with his side-project. He's released on a long list of labels such as OSM Tapes, Soil, MSQ, Pildoras Tapes and others. This fall, his second vinyl EP will be released on Violena Viola with remixes from The Hacker and Mick Willis & Blackmoon77. He provides a pumping selection balancing the outer edges of EBM and electro. Lock in!
Going hard this week on the series is R-oderick. Well-known as Andre E-R in the Toronto scene, the talented Canadian artist has been dropping heat for some time under techno-focused aliases such as 'R', Ébony, and R-oderick. He released under labels such as Opal Tapes and Jericho One. The multifaceted artist has deep roots in the Toronto dubstep and beats scenes as a pillar in both communities. His latest Ricardo Laine release was on Pinkman Records, offering a fresh take on new beat, industrial and EBM with a great review on Resident Advisor. Lock in for an eclectic selection showcasing the many sides of this Toronto legend.
Closing off August are Stockholm-based duo Harlem Electronics. They consist of veteran producers Martin Thomasson and Johan Skugge, who are well known for their work in dub and minimal techno. They've been dropping some serious heat on lauded labels such as Veyl, an EP on Filmmaker's Body Musick label, Milan-based Marguerite Records, and others. They have a distinct style that to our ears is a balance between electro, synth-wave, EBM with vocals. Lock in for an 80 plus minutes ride with Broken English Club, new Bertram on Pinkman, new Ron Morelli, Terrence Fixmer, Beau Wanzer, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Shit & Shine and others.
