Hey gang!
I had to book a bit of time off to go back up to the old home town, Vernon, to give my pa a hand! I’ll try to keep up on posting here, but since I’ll be out of the shop, I won’t be able to take photos of cool new books or merch or anything.
I also might not be up to date on posting the weekly lists, but I can assure you, the new comics will still be arriving!
Anyway, I just wanted to let y’all know why this feed might get a little odd for the next week or two, and why you won’t be seeing my Spider-Vest around the shop during that same time!
I’ll try to have fun, but like Pat, I get a little antsy when I gotta be away from the shop. It’s really been my most consistent home over the past 25 years!
I hope y'all can be good to the city in my absence. I'm sure my pigeons and crow buddies will be wondering where there lunchtime snacks are!
I'll miss everybody, and be back as soon as I can!!!

🚨Okay so you know I’m crazy for these…🤪
We’re talking a set of Original four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 1988 Playmates Figures!
🐢🐢🐢🐢
These got the 10-figure Back Cards, with the Turtle Team Fan Club advertisements! That makes them some of the earliest and rarest of the original run!🤩
Man, I can remember the day I saw these in the shop for the first time; I’d already been reading the comics, so these made my whole brain explode.🤯
Seeing them again now, in sealed packages? Y’all got no idea how close these came to going home with me, but I still got my original figures, so really, it’d be nice to see these guys get to go to a new home that’s gonna love them as much as they deserve!💚
It’s a cool piece of comic book & action figure history, really a piece of pure Pop Culture Magic. Hang these on the walls and BAM - instant nostalgic time-travelling!⏳
Pretty rad!😎
We’re selling the set for🤑$999.99🤑, but you gotta stop by the store if you wanna see about picking them up!! I’d think fast if I were you, ‘cause once these guys are gone, it’ll be a long time before we see ‘em like this again!😱

Todays is Mother’s Day!
I only remembered that ‘cause a young man came in to buy his mom a Ninja Turtle action figure. I know that seems like it might be more for him, but turns out his mom is a big fan. I shouldn’t be surprised, it is 2026 for goodness sake.
I’ll have to give my mom a call. She’s great - I’m lucky to have her. Heck, in this economy, I’m lucky to have a mom at all.
Happy Mom’s Day to all who observe it!

I had an experience on the street today that was pretty upsetting. I don’t want to unpack it here and now, but sometimes living in the city means you might have to see or deal with something that leaves you a little shaken.
For me, it’s a reminder that for all the size and population of Vancouver, we still need to function as a community, and that means having respect and empathy for all folks, no matter their background or financial situation.
I think it might be a rough summer this year, for a lotta folks. And the older I get, the longer I work on the Downtown East Side, the more I become convinced that the only way to deal with these troubles is with as much kindness and understanding as we can muster.
That’s it. That’s my big solution. Be nice to people, as much as you can. Look after yourself, make sure you’re saying sane and safe and hydrated, and when you can, be kind.
Said with love,
-Hank
