Meet the Mariposa chair. 🪑
This responsible chair flat packs, is made in North America, and every part can be replaced or repaired if needed.
What makes it all possible is a solid metal joint that connects to the wood leg. Because it can be removed, the entire chair can come apart, allowing you to replace the metal brackets and wood members.
Using a fairly standardized star bit, you can remove the bolts to take the chair apart or even convert it into a stool without a back.
The strategic use of high-quality materials—solid metal, hardwoods, and high-quality plywoods—is reminiscent of the Eames ethos or manufacturers like Blu Dot.
The Mariposa is one of the only modular chairs on the market, but its simple form makes it versatile and incredibly long-lasting. It earns a high rating for sustainability, reusability, and quality.
Can’t wait to see what this design company comes up with next!

How does this intelligent aluminum joint help to make furniture more affordable? The aluminum joint replaces traditional wood joinery. A flat piece of milled aluminum works like a key to connect the pieces of wood.
These stools and chairs are made by Fyrn. The company has reduced the cost of its products while still using high-quality materials such as solid oak and cabinet-grade plywood. The complexity is designed into the joint, creating a simple kit of parts for chairs, stools, and tables.
The price of this chair is about $675. This is a good value for an item made with mostly hardwoods. The chair’s form could become more expressive in future iterations, but good value is hard to argue with, especially given that it’s produced in the US.
Fyrn puts much of its energy toward durability, given that these chairs are often found in restaurants and high traffic areas. The aluminum joint makes for a robust connection, but also means that in the event of an issue, individual parts can be replaced as opposed to the chair in its entirety. It also makes recycling down the line more feasible.
