Alejandra came in with knee pain and one big fear. That she’d have to stop. Stop running. Stop training. Stop showing up to the @manakoafitness community and the sport she’d built her life around. The sled push isn’t a cardio station. It’s a leg drive station. The athletes who move it well aren’t just stronger - they’re training the right pattern. Glute step ups are one of the best ways to build that specific strength. Heel drive. Full hip extension at the top. That’s the movement. Wall balls late in a Hyrox race are a different exercise entirely. Your squat depth suffers. Your shoulders fatigue. Your rhythm breaks. The dumbbell squat press trains both demands in one movement. Sit deep. Drive up. Reach overhead. Control the descent. It builds the bottom position and overhead endurance wall balls demand at the same time. Most people treat the SkiErg like a cardio machine. It’s not. It’s a lat exercise - and if your lats aren’t doing the work, your arms will give out before your lungs do. The fix is simple: train your lats to actually initiate the pull. Cable pullovers are one of the best ways to build that pattern. Hinge forward, drive down from the lats, control the return. That’s your SkiErg stroke. Do that consistently, and race day feels different. Save this for your next Hyrox workout and comment “SKI” below if something feels off during your Hyrox training.
