It’s been over three months since our last post and these are those spoons finished - all carved in the past few weeks.
Several people have messaged asking whether we are making less. Two days after the previous post I received the results from a routine GP health check. When I had found out that it would include a blood test I asked if I could also have a PSA test - I had no symptoms but there had been a lot of noise about prostate cancer in the news.
The PSA result returned was high enough for the GP to refer me to urology where a repeat PSA was also elevated - a MRI scan followed (again reporting areas of concern) which lead to a biopsy.
Ten weeks after referral I was happy to learn that the pathologist could not definitively say that the suspicious cells detected were cancerous, but of course (to a control freak) that also sounds a little like they couldn’t say that they weren’t! But I continue to be asymptomatic and I’m being kept under review with a repeat PSA at the end of March.
So to answer those who asked, I just struggled to focus on making while undergoing the testing and particularly while waiting on the various results. But I’m carving again (evidence above 😉) and will just have to see what the next test brings.
Why share this? Well, to say to all chaps who might be sitting(!) on symptoms of concern, or who are of an eligible age, please do consider requesting a PSA test. Yes, there is a risk of false positives and potentially undesirable testing, but I believe better that, than the regret of a late and less treatable diagnosis.
