📣 New podcast alert 📣 “Our Thing: The Birth of Salsa in Nueva York,” premieres May 26! Hosted by Oscar and Emmy-nominated actress and Brooklyn native @rosieperezbrooklyn , this new original series goes back to 1964, when a Dominican musician and an Italian-American ex-cop founded a scrappy little record label called @faniarecords in New York City and accidentally sparked a global cultural revolution. “Our Thing: The Birth of Salsa in Nueva York” tells the definitive story of the “Motown of Salsa” and all of the All Stars that made it possible: Willie Colón, Héctor Lavoe, Celia Cruz, Rubén Blades, and so many more. Their influence runs directly through the artists dominating today, including Bad Bunny, Rauw Alejandro, and Karol G. Featuring new original music by @ellabricmusic . Follow the show wherever you get your podcasts and share this trailer by @ostomatic with all your cocolo friends!

On the day the King of Spain arrived in Puerto Rico, the statue of Juan Ponce de León was toppled in Old San Juan. The mayor moved to restore it. But this exposed long-standing tensions over colonial history, national identity, and who we choose to honor as our champions. 🔗 Tap the link in bio to listen to the first episode of La Brega: Campeones. Frank Ross was supposed to die in prison - but a few days ago, he became one of the few incarcerated people in Pennsylvania to be granted released under the state’s “compassionate release” policy. Frank is 93-years-old and was released into the care of a hospice. He is ill, unable to walk, and until a few days ago, he depended on the care of other incarcerated men to get around in prison. We profiled Frank Ross’s story on the second season of our podcast, “Suave.” In Episode 4, we explore the tight-knit inter-generational relationships formed in prison, including that of Suave and Frank, his mentor and father figure. Over more than four decades in prison, Frank worked hard to make amends. He stayed out of trouble - never receiving a single disciplinary infraction. Instead, he poured all his time into writing, publishing novels, plays and essays. And he spent most of his time teaching young men like Suave to write, tutoring them, and fathering them in the best way he could. Today, there are currently more seniors in prison then ever before in history - it’s a phenomenon that’s been called the “graying of the prison population.” Now free for the first time in decades, Frank hopes to reconnect with his family and to spend the time he has left on Earth writing, and using his words for positive change. 🎧Listen to Suave wherever you get your podcasts to learn more.🎧

#NowPlaying a @latinousa episode 🎧 Reggaeton is full of myths and legends, but this story is true: El General arrived in Brooklyn in the mid-80s and began performing in the dancehall scene, which was booming. He began working with Jamaican producers who were recording and promoting Panamanian artists. Around the same time, a Spanish-language hip-hop revolution was also taking place, as mixtapes flew back and forth between NYC and Puerto Rico. New York became the crossroad that made reggaeton possible. Listen to a special episode from our own @futurostudios hit show “LOUD: The History of Reggaeton” hosted by @ivyqueendiva . 🔗 Tap the link in bio to listen now. #reggaeton #LOUDPodcast #IvyQueen #NuevaYork
