Road construction season officially began in Cleveland Heights on April 23. This budgetary year, Cleveland Heights City Council more than doubled the city’s road resurfacing budget, from $2 million to $5.1 million in 2026, increasing the roads it resurfaces from 11 last year to 27 this year. /articles/cleveland-heights/cleveland-heights-more-than-doubles-road-resurfacing-budget-takes-on-potholes/

For years, the Cedar Lee district has been known as a place to gather—to meet a friend for coffee, catch a film, wander into a gallery or hear music drifting out onto the sidewalk. It’s a place built not just on businesses, but on moments—small, meaningful, and shared. Now, that spirit has a new identity.

FutureHeights is launching a home repair matching grant program for homeowners who live in the Cain Park and Cedar Lee neighborhoods. The Block by Block program is being launched to complement our neighborhood revitalization efforts in these areas. Currently, we are renovating two homes and working with Rebuild Cleveland to build market-rate new construction modular homes. Here’s how it works. The program is intended for owner-occupants who live in a specific focus area of the city, defined as the residential streets between Cedar Road (to the south), Lee Road (to the west), Mayfield Road (to the north), and South Taylor Road (to the east). Homeowners who earn up to 120% of area median income are eligible. The Block by Block program provides up to $3,000 in matching grant funds for exterior projects such as porch repair, tuckpointing, painting and more.

FutureHeights invites Heights residents and visitors from Greater Cleveland and beyond to experience the rhythm and heart of Cleveland Heights at its annual Heights Music Hop, a three-day celebration of live music, local businesses, and community connection, scheduled to take place Aug. 28–30. Launched in 2013 and now celebrating its 13th year, the festival has evolved into a premier celebration of the community’s diversity and authenticity. Planning is underway for this year’s event, including family-friendly and community activities, promising something to enjoy for all ages. This year’s Hop will span four of Cleveland Heights’ commercial districts, beginning Friday afternoon and evening with performances in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood. Plans call for the music to travel through the Cedar Lee district on Saturday night, then wrap up on Sunday.

Our Crowdsourced Conversation on City Operations & Services is happening tonight from 6:30–8:00 PM at the Church of the Saviour UMC in the Great Hall Room, due to the power outage at the Lee Road branch of the library. We’re looking forward to a great conversation with representatives from the Parks and Recreation, Public Works, and the Mayor’s Action Center departments. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, learn more about how city services work, and connect directly with city staff. See you tonight!

FutureHeights COO Brenda Bailey announces retirement A cornerstone of our organization will be retiring at the end of February. Brenda Bailey has been with FutureHeights since 2023 and has played a key role in making the organization what it is today. Brenda stepped into the role of interim manager in early 2024 amid the organization’s restructuring, transitioning to Chief Operating Officer (COO) in early 2025. Without her help during that crucial time, we’re not sure where the organization would be. In 2025, Brenda served as Heights Music Hop manager, greatly expanding the event’s economic impact for our community. She touched every part of the work we do, and FutureHeights is better off because of it. Thank you, Brenda, for everything. We wish you an enjoyable, exciting, and relaxing next chapter. — FutureHeights Board of Directors
