It brought together young people and supporting experts from across East Africa to reflect on how the climate crisis is shaping their lives, futures, and rights. ⚖️ 𝗔 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲; this Declaration emerged from the Tribunal through testimony, regional expertise with our partners, and legal analysis, and was shaped through a shared process of listening, debate, and care. 🌿 The work of protecting future generations is not a single moment or document, but a continuing commitment shaped by place, memory, and collective action. Seven of these boundaries have already been breached, increasing the risk of irreversible and cascading change. They sit at the centre of planetary destabilisation, and yet, every year $1 trillion still goes to support them. Meet Brigitte Rasoatahina Tolojanahary @bri.marlo a sustainable entrepreneur working on creating an oil mill project to promote food security in Madagascar. 🌍 Brigitte told the story of her community's loss due to climate change as well as the local efforts of her initiatives in her testimony at our East African Future Generations Tribunal (EA FGT) in Mombasa, Kenya. Through this tribunal, Brigitte contributed to drafting the Declaration of the East Africa Future Generations Tribunal along with our participants and regional experts; a document detailing the rights to be secured for Future Generations in the context of East African realities. Future generations are not an idea. They are the next communities to inherit the soil, the rivers, the sky, and the stories we leave behind.
