Explore the transformative power of play! We have an urban play pop-up at Dandy-Con in Harmony Square this weekend... come along and build a future world with us 💚🎶🌿 Dandy-Con 11am–4pm Saturday April 11 outside Dandenong Library Reconnect with creativity, nature, and each other in this future play lab workshop. Through guided activities, imaginative exercises, and collaborative exploration, participants will rediscover the power of play as a tool for renewal, connection, and possibility. Inspired by regenerative thinking, the workshop invites you to slow down, experiment, and co-create playful experiences that nurture wellbeing, spark curiosity, and cultivate new ways of seeing and being. No experience required—just a willingness to explore, laugh, and let play lead the way. Led by experienced play designers from the RMIT future play lab who will share insights from their solo and shared projects – games and experiences across a variety of mediums designed to invite reconnection, reimagination, and regeneration of people and place. No previous game design background, technical knowledge, or creative experience is required to fully participate. We closed Cardigan Street for a weekend of urban play to reworld the neighbourhood. Cardigan Street became a civic square inviting participation in what shared, regenerative futures could look, feel, sound, and taste like. Remapped with Boon Wurrung knowledge and language, the street is transformed into an urban commons for learning with place led by N’arweet Carolyn Briggs AM in collaboration with future play lab, Regen Melbourne, and Yalukit Willam Nature Association. Loved the generous play that emerged in our urban adventures! We played well together over two days, imagining an autonomous off-the-grid Poblenou in Barcelona 2050. In a neighbourhood of diverse residents including chefs and farmers, a huntress and witch, dog walker and businessman, scholars and educators, people free and retired, musicians and designers, and many more. Although there was one close call, we didn’t lose hope along the way. Gio is an urban ecologist and conservationist who brings a sense of curiosity to sustainability and environmental preservation. Building new futures is hard work and isn’t always going to go your way, but it’s better than standing by and complaining about the status quo. Reworlding is about working with what’s available right here, right now and playing with the possibilities that come into play. This extension of who you are and how you help bring a place, a neighbourhood, into being is essential. Maybe you propose a complex economy that ‘fails’ but sparks off a debate, propose an urban forest and are shut down by a master plan, or fought the law and the law won — but plant seeds of change that other players pick up and run with… you get the picture, place is complex and made by people.
