Hear it from the man himself. How @funskull (AKA local artist, Elliott Routledge) turned drawings by the kids of Marrickville into something special, the whole neighbourhood can enjoy. Powered by @toga_group with @kreateaus .
Five days, one wall, and a lot of paint later đ¨ We followed @funskull as this one came together, from first sketch lines through to the final peel back. Five months on from a few very good drawings by Marrickville kids, itâs now sitting right where it should be. This is just the start though. Weâll be sharing more from the process, the thinking behind it, and a closer look at everything that made it onto the wall. In the meantime, go take a peep at the real deal next time youâre passing through Wicks Place.
Does this count as ASMR?
We hope you enjoy this work in progress from @funskull as much as we do.

Based in Sydney, Routledge works across abstraction, public installation, and figurative sculpture, creating work that engages identity, public space, and human experience. His visual language is bold, expansive, and shaped by a global practice weâre excited to bring to Nashville.

In this weekâs episode of Bench Talk, @tom_gerrard_ sits down with Sydney-based artist Elliott Rutledge @funskull for an incredibly honest conversation about
artistic evolution, creative experimentation and navigating the transition from street art to the gallery world.
Elliott is one of those artists who refuses to be put in a box. Abstract paintings, text-based works, murals, sculptures - he does it all. But whatâs really fascinating is how intentional he is about his evolution, quietly developing bodies of work for years before revealing them to the world. âI canât help myself. I donât like to sit
on one thing - Iâll try anything.â
If youâre an artist who:
âĄď¸Feels pressure to âpick a laneâ but thrives on experimentation
âĄď¸Struggles with imposter syndrome when entering new spaces
âĄď¸Creates work you love but worries it wonât sell
âĄď¸Wants to transition into galleries but doesnât know how
âĄď¸Feels like an outsider in the art world
Then this conversation will resonate deeply.
Elliott shares how he kept his now-signature text-based works on the back burner for years, thinking no one would buy them - until an interior designer walked into his studio and proved him wrong.
He talks about working with curator Amber Creswell Bell, being featured in the Australian Abstract book, and how fatherhood has shaped his creative practice.
This is about the courage to evolve without abandoning yourself.
