Year 34 - FUNMI IN UNION WITH FUNMI I have grown so much in love with myself this year. I have outdone, and continue to outdo, myself because I show up 100 percent as me in every way. More importantly, I look in the mirror and I’m so enchanted by who I see. I am actually who I hoped to be at my age as a child and even more. I’m honored to feel my inner child finally relax. 2025 has mirrored the best parts of life back to me, and I know it’s just the beginning. I am absolutely grateful for life. Today, we are celebrating the incredible women on the G.A.S. team who make our work possible! 💜✨⁠ ⁠ Moni Aisida (@solamoni ) leads G.A.S. as Executive Director, drawing from over eight years in the arts alongside experience in fintech and health. Having worked for several art organizations, she is deeply committed to fostering innovative artistic voices.⁠ ⁠ Tomiwa Adegbola (@tomiiwaa ) has served as Projects Coordinator over the past twelve months. A residency alumnus of the African Artists’ Foundation, she’s dedicated to art writing and building critical infrastructure within the African art sector.⁠ ⁠ Catherine Bardi (@bardi.oo ), Communications and Events Coordinator, joined G.A.S. last year and has since become integral to our team. With a background in theatre arts and experience working with several art organizations, she is dedicated to crafting narratives and fostering connections in the creative community.⁠ ⁠ Funmilola Ogunshina (@funmitheunicorn ), our newest team member and Farm Residency Coordinator, brings over seven years of experience across the creative industries, from fashion to music, video, and poetry. YEAR 33 - THE CHRIST YEAR/THE GOD YEAR Fun fact: I was born on a Tuesday too. Last year, I knew my 2024 would be a battle—and it was. A battle for my mind, heart, body, and soul. I fought inwardly and outwardly, protecting myself fiercely. It was the toughest year of my life, but I made it out breathing. And now, I’m done with stories of pain. By God’s grace, the guidance of my ancestors, and my own strength, I turned a potential breakdown into a breakthrough. 2024 taught me to transform pain into power, and from it, I emerged stronger—loving deeply, fighting fiercely, and healing completely. I became who young Funmi needed, and nothing can take that away. To me: Funmilola, I love and accept you fully. You’re thriving in sovereignty, fulfilling the dreams of Grandma, Iya Ado, and Mama. They are proud, and so am I. You found God within you—welcome to the year you live that truth. Happy Birthday, Oluwafunmilola Oyinkansola.

This year tested me. I was forced to believe before I see, to leap before I looked. My faith was deeply tested. Some people wake up with coffee; I wake up with Tyler in my ear like he’s my unlicensed therapist. Seriously, if I didn’t have music, I’d probably still be emotionally camped out in that ‘pit of despair’…and who has the time? This album reminded me why I make music in the first place. Healing? Absolutely. Melodies that live rent-free in one’s head? You bet. It seems that I’m not just brushing my teeth; I’m setting the vibe for the day, getting spiritually recharged, one verse at a time. Funny how three minutes of someone else’s music can help me find MY OWN voice.

I’m the designated ‘rebel’ at every family gathering. So, naturally, I used to pull a disappearing act. But this time? I showed up fully equipped, unapologetically me: earphones locked in, stretchy pants locked AND loaded. Because if I’m going to be the oddball, I’m at least doing it with style…and room for all the food. #blacksheep
