Check out a show I worked on that premiered today on Hulu. Memphis to the Mountain. The 3 part docuseries follows nine rock climbers from Memphis as they train and attempt to climb the second tallest mountain in Africa, known as one of the most dangerous and challenging climbs in the country. #tveditor #editor
Ms. Vessie is 100 years old and every time we sit down with her, she has a fun story to share 😂 In this one, she takes us back to the 1930s when she and her siblings fried a chicken they were not supposed to touch. That chicken was for laying eggs. Mama was not pleased.
She also recalls how her mother would order live baby chicks straight from mail order catalogs like Sears and they’d arrive right at your door.
These are the stories that get lost if we don’t capture them. The funny ones, the everyday ones. Oral history preservation matters. Start your own family interview today, all you need is your phone. Interview your grandparents, and your parents!
Comment RISE and we’ll send you 10 questions to ask your grandparents, parents, aunties, and uncles to get started. 🖤

Silvia Hector Webber was a Black woman born into slavery who negotiated her freedom in the 1830s. She and John Webber, a white man, were in an interracial marriage.
Together they settled land along the Colorado River in Webberville, Texas, and used their ferry to help enslaved people emancipate themselves to Mexico.
Mexico abolished slavery in 1829.
Zadarius Webber is their 5th generation descendant, and this story deserves to be told.
This short documentary is a project being developed by @blackaustintours and the @wfpptx_org Family . I am honored to help produce and document it. More videos coming soon.
The editing room is where the magic happens. ✂️

Notice how our elders call Juneteenth “the 19th of June.” It has a nice ring to it!
Ms. Flo has been celebrating for 80+ years, and her spread never misses: hot dogs, tea cakes, red soda water, and watermelon. A full joyous tradition. 🖤🍉
On June 19th, 1865, enslaved people in Texas finally received word that they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. That day became a celebration of freedom, family, and community that Black people have honored ever since. And however you call it, it’s a day worth celebrating in full.
Juneteenth is coming up, make sure you’re dressed for it. 🖤 Comment JUNETEENTH and we’ll send you a link to shop our Juneteenth tee + a code for 10% off. 🛍️

In Grief Retreat, a mother hoping for a relaxing spa weekend is blindsided when her daughter signs them up for something very different.
As the weekend unfolds, what was meant to be peaceful quickly becomes complicated, forcing them to confront difficult truths, unexpected emotions, and each other.
A sharp, heartfelt dramedy about family, control, and finding meaning in the moments we don’t choose.

Ms. Vessie is 100 years old. She grew up in East Austin and one of her favorite memories is her mom making neck bones, picked up from Eisenbeiser’s, a German-founded grocery store where the owner and Caldonia, Black woman who worked behind the counter would set them aside just for their family. This was the 1930s and 40s.
Eisenbeiser’s was a neighborhood staple on East 12th and Comal. It sold produce, dry goods, and had a saloon and restaurant on site with the family living upstairs and sometimes renting rooms to tenants. After Prohibition shuttered the saloon, it eventually reopened and became a beloved spot for German food, beer, and live accordion music.
Austin historian Jeffrey Kerr writes that founder Ernest Eisenbeiser, a German immigrant, opened the East End Saloon in 1910, with the East 12th Street streetcar line connecting the area directly to the heart of the city. After Ernest died in 1947, his wife Louisa kept the business going for a couple more years before selling it to Black businessman Buford Johnson by 1950.
Ms. Vessie is featured in our upcoming documentary on the history of Austin’s Black freedom communities. Comment RISE and we’ll send you a link to sign up for film updates.

Start recording your elders now. This is oral history preservation and it’s one of the most important things you can do for your family right now. You don’t need a fancy camera. You just need your phone and some time. Sit down with your grandparent, your parent, your auntie, your neighbor and let them talk. Don’t interrupt. Don’t rush them. Just listen. That’s where the real stories unlock.
Comment RISE and I’ll send you 10 questions to get you started.
