I’ve wrestled with the fear of feeling not good enough. I’m not sure when it started but moving to England at 16, studying law and being surrounded by other people who didn’t look or sound like me, something tries to tell you that you have to prove to belong. That you have to reduce to be accepted. That being who you are, how you are, isn’t quite right. Without finding true Light, you’ll begin to accept this is the case. The best thing that could have ever happened to me was moving back at 21. Finding friends, loved ones, and art forms who didn’t have that fear..they were so Full. Full in themselves…and of themselves. I found Art that was vivid, bold, clear, assured of itself and not reducing for anyone. Standing on its own. And so to echo @kingxdavies caption, this win isn’t really about us. It’s the full representation of what happens when you trade lies for truth. To everyone who has sat and continues to sit in spaces where you question or struggle to fit in, please do what @sopedirisu said: Trade that shame for pride. Exchange that fear of appearing prideful for excessive joy. You are a walking epistle. A story waiting to unfold. A prophecy spoken long ago. Hold that. Believe that. Stand in that. To our crew, our boys, our friends and loved ones, thank you. Words are not enough to encapsulate the sacrifices you made. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has gone out to see the film in the UK, US, Canada, Spain. You mean the world to us and you have given us more fuel for the next fire. I love you deeply and I’ll meet you in the next frame. šŸ¤

I made this video last year but I never posted it. So every time you hear ā€œthis year,ā€ just think ā€œlast year.ā€ 😌 I cringed at the thought of posting this but here’s to doing uncomfortable things in 2026. šŸ„‚šŸ¤

Another cringey thing I’m doing this year is sharing a little more of who I am. I hope I don’t delete this soon, lol. šŸƒšŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø

Akinola Davis Jr's, BAFTA nominated, MY FATHER'S SHADOW, starring SĢ£oĢ£pẹ́ DiĢ€rísuĢ€ is in cinemas now! šŸŽ¬ MY FATHER'S SHADOW tells the story of two kid brothers, Remi and Akin, who get to spend a gift of a day with their estranged father Folarin. They go on a voyage into Lagos observing the colossal city for the first time and the hoops their father must deal with to provide. All this is happening in the backdrop of a huge 1993 presidential election result which calls into question his ability to get them home. šŸŽ¬ #BackedbyBBCFilm @akinoladaviesjr @britishfilminstitute @thematchfactory @mubiuk @fremantle @element_pictures @wearefatherland
