Judy was my very first ballet convention teacher, at 8 years old, at Co. Dance.
I remember being completely eyes wide, drawn to her energy, humor, artistry, & the way she made ballet feel ALIVE, welcoming, & deeply human. She had such a special & unique approach to teaching โ one that made EVERY dancer in the room feel seen. I will never forget her British accent or her friend Matilda who was ALWAYS messing with her music.
To now have had the honor of sitting on the same Faculty at REVEL alongside someone who was such a mentor & inspiration to me has been incredibly full circle.
One weekend last season, Judy was teaching the RevKids a sautรฉ combination & one of the dancers shouted, โHEY! How can you jump? Youโre an old lady?!โ & Judy responded, โOne day, if you are as lucky as me, youโll be able to jump like an old lady too!โ. The room immediately fell in love with her just as we all have.
Over the last two seasons, we connected not only through dance, but through grief & heartbreak. We walked through difficult seasons at similar times, & Iโll always cherish the conversations we shared while both trying to find our way back to the light.
Judy carried so much strength, warmth, wisdom, & grace even through hardship.
The dance community lost a truly shining light today.
