〰️ Welcome to Function and Flow Therapy! 〰️
We are excited to introduce our community-based occupational therapy service, located on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.
Our aim is to provide collaborative, accessible, honest and neuro-affirming therapy to children, young people and their families.
We look forward to sharing more with you soon! ✨
Time for a hello 👋
I’m Becky, an Occupational Therapist, Northern Beaches local, and the founder of Function & Flow Therapy.
I have a background working in paediatrics and with young adults with disabilities both in a clinic setting and in the community. I believe that every individual deserves to feel successful in their own way, and work to support families with practical, evidence-based strategies that fit their real lives. I use a range of tools in my practice and have further training in DIR/Floortime, Therapeutic Listening Quickshifts, Trauma Sensitive Practice and Circle of Security Parenting.
Being a parent myself, I understand the joys and challenges that come with parenthood. That’s why Function & Flow is built on honesty, accessibility, and collaboration—because you know your child best, and we’re here to support you on this journey 💛

At 4:30 daycare pick up I can pretty much guarantee that big kid will be tired and our 3 month old will be heading into witching hour. While each day might look different, these are the 3 things we prioritise to support everyone’s regulation!
1. Food: I have snacks ready to go at pick up. Having something to tie them over to dinner helps with the afternoon hangry’s. Also offering foods such as crunchy foods or things to suck on provides oral input that can be regulating after a big day.
2. 5-10 minutes of connection: after being apart all day, your little ones will want your attention. When they are tired and dysregulated, you may find they seek connection with you in ‘negative’ ways. Spending a few minutes together engaged in an activity of their choosing (think bubbles, kicking a ball etc) will help them reconnect.
3. Just add water: on days that feel extra tricky we just add water. In summer this might look like turning on the sprinkler outside, in winter it’s an early bath or playing in the sink. Water provides great sensory input to regulate and calm an overworked nervous system at the end of the day.
It’s not always perfect but makes small changes make all the difference!
If you’re feeling like you’re repeating yourself over and over, give some of these a go.
Often it’s not that your child is intentionally ‘not listening,’ they may have difficulties tuning in to what you’re saying. Each of these strategies have a few things in common:
✨Connection
✨Playfulness
✨Co-Regulation
These three things are so important to engage your child and hold their attention.
And sometimes you need to step back and reset, question why it’s not working, and try again.
Tiny hands at work 🤗
Some of the best opportunities for fine motor development happen in the everyday moments you’re already doing.
🍓 In the kitchen
🌿 In the garden
👕 Around the house
You don’t need fancy toys or complicated setups. We can be intentional with the daily activities we choose to engage our children in, and look for opportunities within existing routines.
I’ve learnt a lot in motherhood so far. It has tested me beyond my wildest dreams and put so much into perspective about what is truely important for a child. Both my daughters are teaching me different lessons in regulation and how to manage my own expectations.
Ultimately motherhood has softened me as a therapist. It has allowed me to connect with caregivers on another level and helped me to show them the power of looking after yourself first, before any visuals, timers or sensory tools.
Being a parent is hard. There’s a lot to learn and we are here to support you through the process 💙
Last May we hosted a community screening of the documentary Seen with @thevillage_nb 💜
It was a special afternoon bringing together parents, professionals, and community members to watch this powerful film. We were joined by local paediatrician Dr Claire Egbers and psychologist Debra Lawler to have open conversations about connection, behaviour, and how our own experiences shape the way we show up for children.
If you missed the event, the good news is that Seen is now available to stream online 🎬 . It is a must watch for any parents.
You can also access the resource booklet we created especially for the Northern Beaches Screening. It’s filled with helpful information and supports for parents. This is now available to download for FREE on our website. 🔗 Link in our bio.

You may have seen and heard OT’s using visuals in sessions or recommending them for routines at home, but why?
They are a fantastic, versatile tool that can be used to develop a number of important skills such as emotional regulation, functional independence and communication.

All about play 🌟
Play doesn’t have to be complicated. There’s no right or wrong way to play. Setting kids up with open-ended materials can lead to endless opportunities for learning and creativity.
There is a time and a place for structure, joint play and goal-oriented tasks, however balancing this with low demand, child-led activities is just as important for development.
In these situations all you have to do is sit back, observe and enjoy ☺️

This year Function & Flow has been slowly growing into a teeny tiny team doing some really wonderful things. Behind the scenes we’ve been supporting families, getting into schools and leaning into education. Feeling grateful for this team and everything they do to make Function & Flow what it is.
2025 has brought some amazing opportunities, lots of learning and working out how to balance business and family.
I’m excited for 2026 to put into action all the things we have planned and to continue to support our wonderful families and community 🌟
Merry Christmas! 🎄
