Spring has been busy and also a little cold! Lots done but lots to do. Spring is hope and optimism and renewal. It’s overwhelming and also very satisfying. This year’s garden plant fixation: several varieties of corn and amaranth. Also: indigo, marigolds and calendula. Flax looks great so far. Persimmons, dogwoods, currants and raspberries are going in the cleared out area. The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago — the second best time is now!! And I have a couple new experiments I’m planning. So I feel like I have a good excuse to miss out on international compost awareness week. Maybe we move that? Make it a month? Or maybe we just focus on that indefinitely, mmmkay? #compost #bestFrassAround #foodRecycling #fullCircle #bioconversion

The #flax field is greening up. It seems a little patchy: could be the broadcast operator’s error? At any rate, it’s looking quite nice and lush right now. Harvest time in late July, early August!

What is it?? A mango pit! I get asked if mango pits are good to go in the bucket. While they aren’t good for the grinder and will stall it, if I can identify the pits and toss them right into a larvae bin, as you can see, the larvae love them!

Spring: the time of year where delusions of grandeur dance through my head! Another blank slate for Gram’s Garden: indigo, several varieties of amaranth and corn, zinnias, calendula, tomatoes, basil, peppers Flax Field Research Year 2 has germinated: maybe — MAYBE — the cooler weather to come will give it time to grow before the smart weed and others undesirables can get established. Trees, native perennials and fruit bushes are getting planted in the shrubby area to the right of Gram’s Garden. Meanwhile, I know there is one groundhog in close proximity. Growing food is hard. Growing plants is hard. Farming is hard. But every spring it feels less daunting. #flax #farming #frass #fullCircle #bioconversion

It was rainy. It was chilly. But that didn’t scare people away! It was a great group of businesses and organizations that came out and made our first Earth Day event robust! Maybe next time it’ll feel more like spring and less like November 🤞🤞 #earthDay #williamsport #wilpoEarthDay #fullCircle #bioconversion

Happy Earth Day! Since it falls on a weekday, Williamsport is having its first Earth Day celebration this Saturday. It’s happening, rain or shine, but let’s channel warm and sunny vibes 🌞 We have so many great booths and vendors coming out for the day, plus food trucks and music acts. And we hope to bring this event back year after year! Bigger, better, greener?! Maybe Captain Planet costume contest?!? I’ve had a great time working with my fellow organizers for this, and I hope to see you Saturday! #earthDay #williamsport #wilpoEarthDay #fullcircle #bioconversion
