Day 18 of quarantine. Things start to roll... bags have been collected, the military planes are geared up and everyone is on stand by. With clear skies flight to Antarctica should go ahead tomorrow...
Day 17 of quarantine. PCR day. A member of the Scientific Antarctic Expedition undergoes a PCR test, the fourth during confinement. In order to travel to Antarctica you need a negative test valid within 72 hours. Maybe things are starting to move....?
Day 15 of quarantine. Election Day in Chile. A member of the Antarctic expedition follows the news on TV as the country celebrates the first round of presidential elections. Due to the confinement expeditioners are not allowed to cast their vote. In Chile voting by correspondence is not possible.
Day 15 of quarantine. And we keep waiting... In Antarctica reign extreme weather conditions. Visibility, catabatic winds, low fog, rotor clouds, low pressure areas... every parameter has to be ok ahead of any flight into the White Continedt.
Day 13 of quarantine. Boring day. Effects associated to confinement start to kick in. Like the obsessive-compulsive disorder with the ships I see through the window and that I have to photograph...
Day 12 of quarantine. Anothter day, another night. A member of the Antarctic Scientific Expedition checks his phone before going to sleep in his hotel room. Internet and mobile devices are the only communication options during the strict confinement period.
Day 11 of quarantine. Another day like Groundhog Day. Time is fusing together and feeling of ´having done it before´ is stronger. Consequences of confinement Ok, now imagine the old Antarctic explorers spending endless days and nights for months and years in the white cold...
Day 10 of quarantine.Prison break day. After a compulsory 7 day confinement imposed by Antarctic Covid19 protocol all members of the expedition have to keep isolated till weather conditions in the South improve and flights can start.

Day 9 of quarantine. Keeping fit day. A member of the Chilean scientific expedition to Antarctica tries new ways of exercise during the confinement period in his hotel room. Hotel rooms are shared by two people.
Any day of the quarantine. Hotel guests under confinement leave the food trays outside their rooms. Members of the Antarctic expedition are not allowed to leave the room or contact fellow travellers.
Day 8 of quarantine. Today is knots day. Refreshing the march knot, and the clove hitch, and the bow line, and the munter hitch, and the water knot, and the alpine butterfly loop... and ... and already confused!
