Deadline extended! The Film and Television Institute of India, in collaboration with National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC – National Film Archive of India), announces a three-week Film Appreciation Course in Pune. Dates: 01 – 19 June 2026 (excluding weekends)

Eligibility: Graduation (minimum), Age 21+ This intensive full-time programme is designed to build a deep understanding of cinema as an art form and communication medium. The curriculum covers film history, cinematic language, movements, genres, mise-en-scène, and the aesthetics of image and sound. Participants also explore developments in independent cinema, digital platforms, and OTT media, alongside an introduction to documentary traditions. The course emphasizes critical viewing and analysis through curated screenings of Indian and international classics, short fiction, and non-fiction works. Ideal for teachers, researchers, media professionals, film society organisers, government officials handling film-related work, and serious cinephiles, the programme focuses purely on film appreciation rather than production. Sessions will be conducted by core faculty and guest experts from FTII, combining lectures, discussions, and extensive screenings to deepen analytical engagement with cinema.

FTII is proud to share that the 35mm prints of Amma Ariyan (1986), directed by FTII alumnus John Abraham and preserved in the archival collection of the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), have contributed to the film’s remarkable 4K restoration. The restoration has been carried out by the Film Heritage Foundation using archival 35mm prints preserved by NFAI for over 38 years — reaffirming the crucial role of film archives in safeguarding cinematic heritage and enabling timeless works to reach new generations. Amma Ariyan is set to premiere in its restored form at the 79th edition of @festivaldecannes , marking a proud moment for Indian cinema. FTII is delighted to celebrate the enduring legacy of its alumnus John Abraham, whose distinct cinematic voice continues to inspire generations of filmmakers. Seats: 25 participants This immersive six-day workshop focuses on developing strong foundations in writing fiction series for web and television. Participants will learn how to create a comprehensive show bible — defining the story world, characters, tone, and long-term narrative vision. The course covers episodic storytelling, character arcs, premise development, season structuring, and writing essential documents such as loglines, series overviews, and narrative trajectories. Guided writing exercises and analysis of existing series help participants translate creative ideas into structured screenplay documents. The course is led by writer and filmmaker Riti Kumar. A graduate of FTII’s Feature Film Screenplay Writing program, she has worked as a scriptwriter and creative producer with studios including Eros International. Her independent short film “Maa” (2022) won Best Indian Director at the Alibag Short Film Festival. She brings industry experience and a strong focus on comedy, satire, and human-relationship dramas to the workshop. The course covers AI-driven ideation, visual development, character creation, storyboarding, video generation, voice and music creation, and cinematic look design. Participants will also explore AI-enhanced workflows for storytelling, pitching, and presentations, while learning tools for sound design, lip-sync, and avatar-based content. The workshop includes ready-to-use prompt eBooks and templates for practical implementation, enabling faster and cost-effective content creation. The workshop is led by filmmaker and educator Rajesh Bhatia. With over three decades of experience across fiction, documentaries, and broadcast media, he brings expertise in visual storytelling and AI-integrated filmmaking. An alumnus of FTII and a UGC-NET (JRF) qualified educator, he has trained hundreds of students in film craft and emerging AI tools for content creation.
