Our design team collaborated with architect Lewis Butler to craft a structural masterpiece for this 1908 Russian Hill residence. Blending safety with style, our solution not only retrofitted the house but also enhanced those breathtaking city and Bay views through oversized glass windows #ftfengineering Team: @butlerarmsden_architects @crownconstructionsf 📷: @jasonorear

FTF is currently supporting Van Sande Structural Consultants on a two-story addition to Santa Barbara’s iconic Lobero Theatre, originally designed by George Washington Smith and Lutah Maria Riggs in 1924 and recognized as California’s oldest continuously operating theater. The project will enhance the theater’s rear courtyard with a two-level scene shop and attached offices, along with a new multi-level structure built around the existing fly tower that includes a backstage area on the lower level, a 130-seat banquet hall on the second floor, and a bar and lounge opening onto a rooftop deck above. The additions were developed to complement the theater’s historic character while providing new event and support spaces #ftfengineering

The FTF team had a great time at the @international partnering International Partnering Institute COLLABORATE Conference last week, and we are thrilled to share that our C3C project took home an IPI Award! This recognition reflects the trust, transparency, and teamwork that made C3C possible. Thank you to everyone who was part of it, and congratulations to all this year’s award winners. #IPIAaward #ftfengineering #SFO

FTF is the Structural Engineer of Record for SFO’s West Field Cargo Ground Service Equipment Building 742, a progressive design-build project delivering a 22,300 SF steel-framed maintenance facility with 20 airside service bays. The new building provides staff access from adjacent parking, dedicated pedestrian circulation, and a fire truck turnaround for emergency access. Its exterior combines a precast concrete base with insulated glazing and varied metal panels, while clerestory daylighting and rooftop photovoltaics support the project’s sustainability goals. #ftfengineering #structuralengineering Project Team: Architect: @woodsbagot Contractor: @skanskausa

FTF provided structural design for five 3,000–3,500 SF hillside homes in Larkspur’s Drakes Cove. The steep site required perimeter retaining walls up to 16 ft tall and a buttressed system using piles and grade beams to resist overturning without tie-backs. hashtag #ftfengineering hashtag #structuralengineering Architecture: @dahlin_architecture Contractor/Developer: Nuvera homes

FTF recently visited LA to walk one of our Palisades reconstruction project sites. Proud to support the rebuilding effort and see progress happening firsthand. #ftfengineering #structuralengineering

Work in progress on the zinc paneled roof of the walkway canopy. Getting the curved form means folding the panel joint carefully to shed water. Later we'll kick-start the patina to this roof will look like the roofs in Paris - without the wait.

Now that the new bronze gate by @hfgardendesign is installed, the entry sequence makes sense. Our sinusoidal canopy provides cover across the edge of the courtyard to the main entry door. What a way to arrive home (and keep the deer out of the garden).

Located on the Embarcadero in Morro Bay, this two-story commercial building cantilevers eight feet over the harbor and features retail below, restaurant space above, and a public observation deck. Inspired by a wooden pier and ocean waves, the structure utilizes exposed glulam framing and curved roof rafters, while a mat slab and cantilevered concrete beams support the building over rock revetment and native sandy soils. #ftfengineering #morrobay Architect: Gene Doughty General Contractor: G Weimann Construction

Loving the way this stair wraps around an open core on the way up to the sky. Between solid corner landings there will be glass treads to allow more light to filter down 3 floors to the ground. We punctured the walls of this stair tower so that it acts more like a skylight.

FTF provided structural engineering support for the perimeter fencing upgrade at a historic San Francisco courthouse alongside studio 2G Architects, LLP. The project replaced a deteriorated chain-link fence with a stronger, more durable system to improve site security while protecting surrounding historic elements. We worked closely with the design team to help deliver a solution that enhances security, maintains the public sidewalk, and respects the character of the site. Photos via @studio2garchitects
