Large-bellied storage urns — made in the kilns of rural Rajasthan and Gujarat, fired in wood-burning bhattis, sealed with natural resins — were workhorses of Indian households for centuries. Grain. Oil. Water. Memory. What makes them irreplaceable now is exactly what made them ordinary then: no two were thrown the same, no glaze was controlled, no finish was planned. The mottled surface, the dark fire-marks, the thick rolled lip — all accidental. All unrepeatable. We have a very small number of these.
