Fruiting bodies at the base of a tree are a sign that the tree has internal decay. When a fungus eats away at the sapwood of the tree and especially when it makes it to the heartwood, the overall structural integrity of the tree is compromised making it susceptible to limb loss and even trunk or full tree failure. Good luck getting the city to take responsibility for these kinds of trees! Likelihood of failure is higher during windy days or rainy days when the soil is properly saturated. Now this tree likely has soil that is regularly saturated because of the grass that is clearly being watered around it. No more grass up to the base of your tree please! Death to turf, save the trees!! #certifiesarborist #dontdoit #noparking #treefailure #fallentree #treecare #treefacts #treetips #funny #song

SOUND UP for fruit picking etiquette, because food isn’t just on plates, it’s hanging over fences, dropping onto sidewalks, and growing all over this city. No better person to lay down the law than fruit tree expert Joanna of @fruitstitute . Happy picking 🍊

I ordered my trees from @fastgrowingtrees this year and they did not disappoint!! Generally I want to pick out my trees in person so I can really assess them. However, the nurseries never have exactly what I’m looking for (I’m picky!!) so I decided to order from #fastgrowingtrees and they came quickly and look sooo cute!! I’m a happy fruit tree lady!! #fruittrees #certifiedarborist #treecare #planting

LOCATION is a huge factor when considering tree removal. This tree could likely stand for many more years to come despite major decay at the base. It could also fail at any time and the risk factor here (because of its location over a playground in an urban area) is too great to leave as is. It is very sad for many people to see a tree go, but as arborists a big part of the job is making sure trees are not at risk for injury or damage. #certifiedarborist #treeremoval #treecare #liability #location

Don’t do this to you mature plums! Hey throw apricots in there too, don’t do it! Heading cuts are not inherently an improper pruning cut but they are the most improperly used pruning cut. When used this way on a plum or apricot tree, you will find a ton of new growth but not a single fruit in sight. The tree responds but sending up lots of vigorous shoots (that later need to be thinned) and building a dense canopy (not good for tree health) and you won’t see a flower or fruit in sight. You have been warned!! #dontdoit #pruning #treecare #fruittrees #stonefruit

A standard proper pruning cut or thinning cut is a very important one to know! You want to make sure you do not cut too close to the parent branch or trunk, creating a flush cut. Flush cuts are bad for trees, preventing them from compartmentalizing and sealing their wounds. Be sure you look for that branch protection zone, use clean, sharp tools and make your cuts wisely! #certifiedarborist #treecare #pruning #fruittrees #gardeningtips
