At Dawn's First Light
Greater Prairie Chicken's lekking behavior is something to behold; dozens of males struttin' and calling while the females judge.
Many thanks for the @nationalparkservice , @nature_org , @nature_kansas , and dedicated conservation-focused ranching community for keeping this incredible ecosystem alive.

Very proud to make the cover of this season’s Living Bird magazine produced by the team at @cornellbirds . Tallgrass Prairie Conservation ( with @nature_kansas and partners ), High Marsh Conservation (with countless partners including @usfws ) and the challenges of monitoring Arctic Plastic pollution (With @caff_arctic_biodiversity ) are all projects we are honored to support through our multimedia work. Go team!
As Dad grows increasingly desperate to entertain the twins at home during the #covid19 #stayathomechallenge he turns to his trusty camera and little #Edelkrone Pocket Skater for a bit of free form fun while the days blend together... #edelkronehomealone
Over 6,000 breeding pairs of Northern Gannet nesting on Cape St. Mary’s, Newfoundland. The importance of Canada’s protected areas network cannot be understated, along with the hard work of the staff who interpret the Reserves mission to the public. Let’s all give thanks to our government’s public spaces, and the life they protect. A greater prairie chicken (Tympanuchus cupido) booming at a lek in the Flint Hills of Kansas. A rare moment where behavior, light, and place all came together. Taken on assignment with @cornellbirds #birdsofinstagram #birds #naturephotography #nikon #photography #chicken #chickensofinstagram
A raven (Corvus corax) on dawn patrol along the Arctic coast of Nunavut. This species is, without doubt, my favorite bird. They hunt with intelligence, and work the wind with childish grace.
Taken while on assignment for @cornellbirds in beautiful Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada.

A three day old Whooping Crane (Grus americana) chick stands triumphant with a mealworm in his beak.
This photo was part of my series documenting Patuxent's captive rearing of these little guys from chicks to adult.
Many of these guys are now at the @smithsonianzoo 's Conservation Biology Institute whom continue to develop the science of captive rearing management!
