When Frontliner reporters head to the East, they make a choice — a choice to go to dangerous places to report on what is really happening. We want to do everything we can to ensure they return safely and continue sharing these important stories. That is why, together with our community, we are launching the Behind Every Story project. Through this project, we are raising funds to provide 30 individual first-aid kits for reporters and other members of the Frontliner team. These kits are developed with @ua.firstaid to meet the specific challenges reporters face in the field and handle a variety of emergencies. We hope our reporters never have to use them, but if an emergency arises, these first-aid kits must be ready to save lives. To equip the entire team, we need the support of our community. ⛑️One monthly subscription can provide a tourniquet, a thermal blanket, or trauma scissors. Become part of the stories that need to be told and join the Frontliner community through the link in our profile.

“We hear explosion after explosion – the press officer accompanying us says that we need to urgently leave this area, because it is starting to be actively shelled,” — Frontliner reporters tell about a recent trip to Kherson. In a new reflection, journalist Ruslana Sushko writes about spending several days in a frontline city, where she witnessed how death becomes part of everyday life. Women who were once prisoners are now serving on Ukraine’s front line. In 2024, Ukrainian prisoners were given the opportunity to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Around 12,000 prisoners signed contracts. Among them were more than 200 women. Some of these women serve in the 1st Assault Regiment, fighting on some of the hottest sections of the front. Five of them became Mavic drone pilots — the “eyes” of the infantry during assaults. This documentary explores war, guilt, discipline, survival, and the idea of a second chance during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Frontliner followed these women’s journey from prison to the front line. Watch the full video on our YouTube channel. We invite you to share our work, provided it is not for commercial purposes. “No one is immune to this. Just one word: war. Just one word: death,” says 80-year-old Olha, who survived the night in the entrance section adjacent to the one hit by a missile. This was another night of the harsh reality of war in Ukraine, this time in Kyiv.   On the night of May 14, Russia launched one of its largest-scale attacks on Ukraine in recent months, utilizing strike drones as well as cruise and ballistic missiles.  In the capital, the most significant damage was recorded in the Darnytskyi district, where a residential building was hit, and an entire entrance section was destroyed. Rescuers are currently working at the scene, clearing the rubble and evacuating residents. The aftermath of the strike is also being documented in other districts across the city. On March 10, Ukraine launched a missile strike on the “Kremny EL” plant in Bryansk, which produces components for missiles that hit Ukraine.  Russia is hiding the true scale of the strike’s consequences, but its production capabilities have clearly been significantly reduced. Since the start of the war, a portion of the troupe has spent over two years representing Ukraine in Europe. After the core members returned to Kharkiv, the repertoire had to be revised. The transition from traditional sets to LED screens, combined with a more intimate setting, posed only technical challenges. A Frontliner reporter discovered how the theater continues to operate despite systematic Russian shelling. With the beginning of a full-scale invasion, more and more women, including military personnel, are turning to cryopreservation of eggs. This procedure increases a woman’s chances of becoming a mother in a less anxious period than the one Ukraine is currently experiencing.  More about how the procedure works is in the new Frontliner article.
