I wrote Jeong Is Jeong as a love letter to Korean Americans and as a way to share this unique Korean concept with those who may not be familiar with it. Jeong is something I think we can all understand, whether we have Korean roots or not. My hope is that young readers will be able to identify the jeong in their lives and find ways to share it with others.

Some moments from my time last week at Seoul Foreign School— I loved sharing about my pic book process and seeing the kids’ creative brains at work. So many thanks to my wonderful host, Ms Mara (the ES librarian), Mr B for lending his amazing energy and space to my planned activities and all the other staff for their kindness throughout the week. The students asked brilliant questions and were such fun. Had the honor of reading Jeong Is Jeong with K-3 classrooms in CA and WA for #worldreadaloudday today! I was so impressed by the kids’ questions, including what my favorite themes to write are (the meaning of home) and how a book gets made (with the help of many hands over many years!). My favorite question: was I one of the characters in Kpop Demon Hunters? I wish I could’ve said yes!
Safe to say I had instant #jeong with these little readers and it only grew the more we chatted!
