FREE Block Printing Artivism Workshop with @ivythefloatingartist Take part in a creative Artivism Workshop led by Tla-o-qui-aht artist Ivy Cargill-Martin, presented in partnership with Friends of Clayoquot Sound. Ivy was born on Vancouver Island and raised on an off-grid float house in her own Tla-o-qui-aht Territory, Ivy has grown up with two very artistic parents. Her mother Robin Cargill, a “jill of all trades” in the art world, and her father Carl Martin, a Tla-o-qui-aht master canoe carver. Her explorations of drawing and painting grew to include carving, crochet, embroidery, block printing, jewelry, sculpture, and even traditional hand poked tattoos. In this Block Printing Artivism Workshop, participants will have the opportunity to design, carve, and press their own linocut block print onto paper or fabric to create a print, and some might even be integrated into the Projecting Visuals Artivism Workshop with @miekejay.visuals DM Ivy or @friendsofclayoquotsound on IG to register for the Ivy’s Workshop that’ll run from 1-5PM on Saturday, May 16th @ the Tofino Community Hall. Space is limited. And after the workshops, the music takes over with @djneonsteve @wavedalton @tofinosangria for @tofinoteaparty (ticket link in bio) 🌎 #ivythefloatingartist #artivism #workshop #friendsofclayoquotsound #tofinoteaparty

🚨 BREAKING 🚨 The BC NDP has just issued mining permits on unceded Tla-o-qui-aht territory — without the Nation's consent. The BC government has given Imperial Metals the green light for 22 drill pads, 6 trenches and 3 helipads in Clayoquot Sound. This is the same company behind the Mount Polley disaster, when a mine tailings dam burst and spewed over 25 billion litres of toxic water and waste into the pristine waters of Quesnel Lake, a major tributary of the Fraser River — one of the worst mining disasters in Canadian history. Swipe to see what five organizations are calling on the government to do about it. Full press release link in @wildernesscommittee 's bio 🔗 #britishcolumbia #mining #clayquotsound #tofino

Here are some awesome photos of the hereditary chiefs, matriarchs, fishing families, youth, Indigenous knowledge holders, and culture keepers—along with friends of migratory salmon, government representatives, scientists, and allies— who gathered on Tseshaht and Hupačasath Territories for the Potlatch for Migratory Salmon. The event was hosted by Ḥupač̓asatḥ Ḥawił Tsu Tsii In (Alton Watts) and Ḥiškiiʔatḥ Elder and artist Aniičačist (Tim Paul). The hosts were Hupačasath supported by Hesquiaht. Over two days, participants came together to strengthen cultural teachings and share good feelings while raising awareness of challenges and opportunities facing Indigenous communities working to protect their rivers, streams, and creeks. Among the key issues discussed were the impacts and the harms associated with open-net pen fish farms. A Migratory Salmon Declaration was developed and signed by the hereditary chiefs in attendance calling to ensure salmon populations are thriving and continue to feed future generations by all means necessary, including the removal of open-net pen fish farms from the Pacific Ocean. 📷: Christopher Roy @christopherroy | See the full photo series at /2025/11/01/potlatch-for-migratory-salmon/ #defendwildsalmon #salmon #fishfarmsout

Have you ever watched the spectacular salmon run? From the surface, the river appeared like any other, but under the surface there can be hundreds of wild salmon returning! If this is something you want to experience as well, it’s not too late! Lucky for us, this year’s salmon run has seen an increase compared to earlier years in many areas. Rivers around the coast such as the Mamquam Spawning Channel in Squamish, the Puntledge River in Comox, the Holy Creek in Coquitlam, and the Serpentine River in Surrey, are all great spots to see spawning salmon from October-December. Salmon hold a pivotal role in keeping coastal ecosystems alive and thriving and we are so excited to see the return numbers growing this year! 🐟🌲🌎 #protectwildsalmon #fishfarmsout #staywild#salmonrun #friendsofclayoquotsound #clayoquotsalmonfestival #salmon #tofino #vancouverisland #pnw #protectwhatyoulove
