WOWWEEEE! We have so many new followers that we want to take a minute to introduce ourselves. Swipe the tiles and get all the FOCF info you need! Friends of Capitol Forest is a member and volunteer run mountain bike based non-profit committed to advocating for and stewarding trails in and around Capitol State Forest. We were founded in 2005 and have been hard at work ever since providing recreation opportunities to our community. Wanna get involved? Here’s how: Becoming an FOCF member is one of the best ways to support the work we do. Hit the link in our bio to learn more. We host monthly trail work parties! Stay tuned on our social channels for work party announcements and details. Each year we host some incredible events (including some shuttle days!!!!) where all registration proceeds go to FOCF. The money generated through events help us continue our work of advocacy, stewardship, and building our greater trail community! Event links in bio. PC: @cayman.waughtel

Not a member and find yourself asking how does FOCF use membership $$? Well let’s see if this convinces you to take that $35 or $65 plunge🤘 Tool and trailer upkeep takes up a large part of our budget. Last year we made a necessary investment in a brand new work trailer (costing $15k) for North Slope and we replace and repair tools within our two trailers as they wear out and break. Our Trail Leads Bill and Sharon care for our work trailers and their housed contents so our volunteers are provided with the necessary items to have successful trail work days. Swipe to see the breakdown of tool cost. Becoming an FOCF member ensures that we will be able to continue the important work on the trails we call home. Link in bio to join. PC: @cayman.waughtel

Passing of the Torch — North Slope Style: Join FOCF in welcoming Matt Green to the Board of Directors as our new North Slope Trail Lead! Matt brings an incredible energy and many years of trail work and building experience. He’s been mentored by some of our best builders and is ready to carry on the incredible legacy of build/maintenance work that North Slope requires. If you see Matt out and about be sure to give him a high five and/or buy him a beverage! It is with the utmost honor and respect that we say goodbye and THANK YOU to Bill Ryan who has stepped down from the Board in order to have more time to spend with his family, his dogs, and outside doing what he loves. The impact Bill leaves at North Slope is massive as he lead build efforts to bring us Upper Bones, Slick Jimmy, Lower LTD, and Upper Octagon. If you’re lucky, you’ll run into Bill out on his bike shredding North Slope — be sure to say thank you and give him a fist bump. Our trails wouldn’t be what they are without his commitment over the years. Now get out and ride 🤘🤘🤘

Capitol Forest is looking for a new caretaker. A couple days ago we posted about DNR's job listing for an “Equipment Operator 1 (EO1) position. That’s state jargon for “Lover and Overseer of the Busy & Beautiful Black Hills (…who can also operate heavy equipment).” We’re posting about it again. Because it is that important. This position is responsible for the quality and integrity of the trails we hold dear, not just at FOCF but within our recreation community at large. Having passionate trail builders and land managers who share the goals, visions, and ambitions as us is crucial to the health and growth of opportunity within Capitol Forest. This position impacts every one of us that enjoys the 110,000+ acres that is the state’s largest parcel of working forest, known as Capitol Forest. Over the past 20 years, FOCF has developed and fostered a relationship with DNR, allowing us to take the lead on new trail construction around the forest. Filling this position with one of our mountain bike community members serves to strengthen that partnership and ensures continuous growth and progress of trail development. This is an amazing job opportunity for one of our own: a seasoned trail worker with a community-first mindset, passionate about broad-scale recreation use, who is sustainability focused. We recognize the salary is tight on this offer, so this position would be ideal for someone who is looking to explore a later-in-life career shift, a bright, young go-getter ready to get their foot in the DNR door, or someone who isn’t dependent on a single income. “Equipment Operator 1 (EO1)” has the potential to benefit us directly. We would be remiss to let this opportunity slip by. Someone has to take it. Help us spread the word and let’s get this position filled! The link is in our bio. #CapitolForest #FriendsofCapitolForest #Trailbuilding
