AmiguruMay Day 3: Introduce yourself! Hi! I’m Sarah. I’ve already introduced myself a little on this account, but why not do it again? So here’s goes: I’m a crocheter as I bet you’ve noticed, but I’ve also been a cross-stitcher, sewist, and oil painter. To pay my bills, I’m a library worker (and I love it!) but I’ve also been a tattoo artist, book editor, and makeup artist. I have a degree in Creative Writing with a minor in Art History. My favorite music genre is citypop and yacht rock and my favorite band is ABBA. As you can see, I’m not great at staying on top of what’s trendy or cool. My favorite Muppet is Rizzo the rat. My first Neopet (R.I.P.) was a yellow Kau named Brandy. I met my husband on Tinder; it’s the best thing the internet has ever done for me. We have two beautiful cats. My senior cat Penny has four teeth and drools and loves watching history docs with her dad. Juniper was named after Junie B. Jones because she’s also a menace (and was adopted on June 1st) and she loves supervising me in the craft room. I cried the first time I played Pikmin and a Pikmin died (I didn’t know they could die that’s fucked up they’re just little guys.) My personal style has been described by multiple people as “kindergarten art teacher.” That’s all I can think of for now! AmiguruMay Day 14: Mini or Mega? I think it’s safe to say I prefer my amigurumi BIG! I love large projects. The bigger the project, the more details I can add. This big sweetheart is Baba and her grumpy bird friend Yaga. I made her last year with no intention of writing a pattern for her, but sometimes I think about revisiting her. AmiguruMay day 8: My Signature. I think my signature when it comes to amigurumi is my eye for details! I love using different textures and materials in a piece to really give the amigurumi character. Celine here might be my favorite out of all my dolls. Don’t tell the others…but I love her big skirt tassels and the stars in her hair and her moon necklace. I think she’d be a night owl and stay up late to star gaze and watch magical girl anime in peace. It’s the little details that make the piece! I want all of my crochet projects to be one of a kind and I love stretching my creative muscles to add just the right details. It also gives me a reason to hoard trim, ribbons, charms, and buttons. It pays to be a craft hoarder! AmiguruMay Day 7: Market or Collect? I’ve never done a market and I doubt I ever will! I love making amigurumi and most of the pieces I make would be much too expensive to bring to market. So they stay on my shelves to keep my craft room cozy or they end up in the homes of friends, family, and coworkers. I love seeing my shelves get full of amigurumi and seeing my tastes and techniques change over time.
