Happy birthday Paul Robeson, who always seems to pop up when I’m on the road. During a private tour of @abbeyroadstudios in December with @rio.kosta , I learned learned that Robeson was among the first artists to record there in 1931. He may have even been the first, before composer and studio founder Sir Edward Elgar opened it for business.
Fast forward to 1960 as Paul Robeson becomes the first to sing at the Sydney Opera House, performing for the builders during it’s construction. (As I learned from the @jonscottbennett documentary)
Maiden performances by this man at two of the most prolific spaces in music (of all time) exemplifies just a minuscule fraction of his pioneering achievements and influences. HBD!
