New from @adhyaroparecords — Gay All This Time, the new EP of @annikasoco ’s new country persona @emmyjeanjenkins , was released today as a CD or DD at the Bandcamp link in bio and story and is streaming everywhere. Collaborating closely with the @frictionquartet , Jenkins delivers a trilogy of queer Americana anthems inspired by 70s classic country. This project serves as the bold, fun introduction of a fresh artist entity, formed by a long-time established classical composer. “She’s very much based off of my upbringing and parts of myself that maybe I haven’t had a chance to fully explore,” Socolofsky says. “With this project, I really just wanted a joyous place to not take myself seriously, even to be campy. Having an alter ego gave me license not to take myself too seriously while still discussing serious topics.”

Hello beautiful fans of new music!!! 🍄 I'm very proud to announce that two separate (and spectacular) world premiere recordings of each of my string quartets have been recently released into the realm. To Unpathed Waters, Undreamed Shores is a 7-movement work written for and championed by the brilliant Jupiter Quartet, and released on Orchid Classics. The album also includes works by Stephen Andrew Taylor and Katie Agócs. My second quartet, DIRTWORK, was commissioned and released by the ever-adventurous Friction Quartet on Aerocade Music, and includes works by Andrew Rodriguez and Alex Dowling. Thanks for listening and for supporting the musical arts ecosystem by purchasing these albums! Available at Bandcamp, Apple Music, and everywhere else 🍓

Our next concerts are happening this weekend! Here is an excerpt from Unveiling by Isaac Schankler, an amazing piece that also appears on our album that we just released, Proper Nostalgia. This movement is called Tempest and you may recognize thematic material from the Beethoven piano Sonata of the same name. Concerts are Friday evening in San Francisco and Sunday afternoon in Berkeley. Other works on the program by Janacek, Loren Loiacono, and Juhi Bansal. And a special surprise at the end! Visit our website for tickets and info, link in bio.

We've been playing music by Janacek for years and we still find it to be jaw droppingly awesome. You're invited to hear us perform his String Quartet No. 1, "Kreutzer Sonata" on our next Friction Presents program curated by Otis, called Inspiration. Also on the program are works by Isaac Schankler, Loren Loiacono, and Juhi Bansal. Concerts are this Friday evening at Noe Ministry and Sunday afternoon At Berkeley Piano Club! Our website link is in our bio where you can find ticket information.

@adhyaroparecords is thrilled to announce Gay All This Time, the new EP of Annika Socolofsky’s new country persona @emmyjeanjenkins , now available for preorder as a CD or DD from the Bandcamp link in bio and story. Through collaboration with the @frictionquartet , Jenkins delivers a trilogy of queer Americana anthems inspired by 70s classic country. This project serves as the bold, fun introduction of a fresh artist entity, formed by a long-time established classical composer. She is also joined by producer @snyderphonics on pedal steel, Chris Sies on drums, @morganharrisguitar on guitar, and the CU Boulder University Choir. The first single is streaming everywhere and the album will be released in full on April 24th. “She’s very much based off of my upbringing and parts of myself that maybe I haven’t had a chance to fully explore,” Socolofsky says. Finding success as a professor of music and classical composer at @cubouldermusic , Socolofsky found that everyone must take themselves seriously to thrive in musical academia. The unintended cost of said excellence is losing the ability to let go and have fun with music making, for which she directly challenged in this project. “Contemporary classical musicians take themselves so seriously all the time! With this project, I really just wanted a joyous place to not take myself seriously, even to be campy. Having an alter ego gave me license not to take myself too seriously while still discussing serious topics.”

On April 17th and 19th come and experience Inspiration, a concert imaginatively curated by our own Otis Harriel. Tickets and info at our website link in our bio. This concert traces the hidden threads between sound and inspiration, from medieval poetry to pandemic resilience, beams of light in the dark, and a Russian novel’s fiery drama. Loren Loiacono’s Besides (featured in this rehearsal clip) reimagines the lone surviving song of a 12th-century female troubadour, while Isaac Schankler’s Unveiling (written for Friction Quartet) captures the collective tension and tenderness of lockdown. Juhi Bansal’s Cathedrals of Light transforms shimmering imagery into sound, and Janáček’s quartet no. 1“Kreutzer Sonata” channels Tolstoy’s tragic tale—itself inspired by Beethoven’s violin sonata.
