Another absolutely tremendous night on tour with Haircut One Hundred. York Barbican what a venue! It’s a long way from playing at Fibbers (which we loved) even though the toilet for that venue was only accessible via a strip club. I told that story from stage last night prior to another wonderful crowd and Stone Foundation acoustic set. We’re picking up lots of new fans on this tour and meeting lots of beautiful souls. This weekend is extra special as we’re staying over at hotels every night and locking ourselves in the tour bubble. Marvin the campervan is getting us around (I’m looking after him Claire) Life on the road is fun, rewarding, tiring and uplifting in equal measure. Staying over we get to really immerse ourselves in the haircut’s set. What a band, phenomenal players and brilliant human beings. King size and favourite shirt were absolutely on fire tonight, if you haven’t already get yourself along to a totally joyous tour, Manchester tonight & Glasgow tomorrow. Last night was rounded off perfectly with a lovely chat with drumming royalty Blair Cunningham. Blair has played with everyone since his early haircuts days from Paul McCartney, the pretenders, mick jagger, Sade, Roxy Music….to name just a few. Tonight we talk solely about our shared love of Memphis music. Blair’s older brother was in the Bar-Kays unfortunately Carl passed in the same terrible plane crash that took Otis Redding and that wonderful band from us. Like I said he’s drumming royalty and comes from a family of mega talented drummers. We talk about his brother Roy who used to play on beale street across the road from my friends FreeWorld led by Richard Cushing (he’s passing on his love to Roy from you David Skypeck by the way) Roll on tonight in Manchester. There's a primary election in Memphis & Shelby County today and the government only REALLY asks for your opinion every so often, so it's in your personal best interest - it's your civic duty, no less - to let them know your opinion when they ask. It took me all of about 20-30 minutes last night to do a little research on our local candidates (to make sure my votes were cast with care), and about 5 minutes in the polling station this morning to actually cast my ballot. It's been said many times before: "You can't truly complain about your governmental representation (at least not in any informed &/or credible fashion) if you make an active choice to be a non-participant in the election process."
