On Facebook, it doesn’t take long for Dawn Staley’s “FAMs” to encounter a trough full of AI slop and fake news, from posts announcing she has cancer to others suggesting she's retiring — or in a feud with Erika Kirk.
These posts, which can be categorized somewhere between deepfakes, misinformation and spam, are part of a growing volume of Artificial Intelligence-generated content about Staley and other sports figures and celebrities.
It's not only permeating everyday people’s social media, it’s becoming increasingly hard to spot at first glance.

Signage at Jay's Bar in Columbia’s Vista has been removed, weeks after the business lost its state and city-issued licenses to operate.
Signs at the Gervais Street property no longer hung from the building when a reporter visited the location on May 12. Signage with the bar’s name had been removed, while a sole “skip the line” notice remained.
