This Trans Day of Visibility, join us in uplifting the creative contributions of trans people in the film industry. With increased visibility comes increased backlash and this year has seen increased violence against the wider trans community. Cinema can be a tool for empathy and it is is more important than ever that trans stories be told through an authentic lens. Let’s shine a light on these filmmakers to building a more inclusive industry for us all… ✨ Film Fatales member Chase Joynt (@chasejoynt ) is internationally acclaimed for his work pertaining to trans stories, winning two awards at Sundance for FRAMING AGNES and nine awards on the international festival circuit for NO ORDINARY MAN. ✨ Aitch Alberto (@aitchalberto ) recently made headlines with her directorial debut ARISTOTLE AND DANTE which was Executive Produced by Lin Manuel Miranda. ✨ Silas Howard (@silash ) is the first trans director to direct for the show TRANSPARENT and has continued to direct shows such as THIS IS US, GRAND ARMY, and A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN. ✨ Janet Mock (@janetmock ) has directed multiple episodes of POSE and became the first trans woman of color to secure a deal with a major content company when she signed an overall deal with Netflix. ✨ Zackary Drucker (@zackarydrucker ) is a filmmaker committed to stories of trans history, working to ensure accurate representation on TRANSPARENT and recently directing the features QUEENMAKER and THE STROLL ✨ Wu Tsang (@wu_tsang ) has been awarded the Grand Jury Award for Outstanding Documentary at Outfest for WILDNESS and the MacArthur Genius Grant. ✨ D. It debuted at Sundance, won multiple awards, and got her signed to CAA, despite her being shunned from the music industry after coming out as trans. ✨ Mari Walker (@mariwwalker ) is an award-winning filmmaker with over 47 awards and 19 nominations whose films have screened at Sundance, SXSW, and Outfest. ✨ Jane Shoenbrun (@janedoesnotknow ) is a master of horror through trans voice, directing WE’RE ALL GOING TO THE WORLD’S FAIR and I SAW THE TV GLOW for A24. #TDOV

She was an activist in various areas, advocating for the Civil Rights Movement and discussing women’s empowerment in her films. 💫 Film Fatales member Lesli Linka Glatter (@leslilinkag ) is an Oscar and Emmy nominated Director and Executive Producer renowned for work on shows such as HOMELAND. She is the also the second ever woman to be President of the DGA. 💫 Debbie Allen (@therealdebbieallen ) has been nominated for 20 Emmys, two Tonys, and a Golden Globe for her countless episodes of TV. She became the first Black woman to win a Governors Award at the Emmys. 💫 Lina Wertmüller was the first woman to be nominated for Best Director at the 1977 Oscars for SEVEN BEAUTIES. 💫 Euzhan Palcy (@euzhanpalcyofficial ) fought for social change and accurate portrayals of Black people in film, becoming the first Black woman to direct a film produced by a major studio in 1989 with MGM for A DRY SEASON. 💫 Agnes Varda was the first woman to receive an honorary Palme d’Or from Cannes and the first female director to receive an Academy Honorary Award for her over 55 years of films. 💫 Film Fatales member Fanny Grande (@fannyvgrande ) is a Venezuelan-American filmmaker working to transform the way Latinx people are portrayed in media. Dream of Delphi is the first video in a series that delves into the deepness of the themes of the album through the character of the MotherWitch. It features the animal, the mother, the cosmic, the protector, the ritualistic, the care giver, the intimate and the devotee - matriarchal archetypes that are beautifully introduced to us through Freddie’s storytelling. Check out the video in our #linkinbio! Creative Director @alexandra_green__ shared her vision: “The collaboration between Natasha and myself, my first as Creative Director feels serendipitous almost. Every aspect of the project and campaign is important and special. It is deeply personal, inspired by early motherhood - Natasha and I work closely in the studio to develop the creative to sit alongside her album of devotional love songs. We work together through a series of improvisations - about the spirituality, ancestry and folklore; but also the mundane, selfless and tender aspects of child rearing that all mothers can attest to. Drawing from a different plane, playing with different developments as they come up in the room that in turn have become this very strong through line that is steering the entire creative campaign from the vinyl artwork to the album film and the live shows. This fund will support filmmakers who demonstrate a commitment to storytelling and offer a unique vision for exploring compelling narratives through short documentaries.
