This spring, the Freed-Hardeman University College of Business, in partnership with the Chester County Sheriff’s Office, hosted a 40-hour Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training. The training brought together first responders and community partners from across West Tennessee for an immersive, hands-on experience focused on effective mental health crisis response. A total of 14 participants successfully completed the training, representing agencies from Chester County, Hardin County, McNairy County and Hardeman County. The CIT program, based on the Memphis Model, equips participants with practical de-escalation techniques, increased awareness of mental health conditions and stronger connections to community resources. We are thankful for the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful, educational event! Read the full story at fhu.edu/news #CrisisIntervention #MentalHealthCrisisResponse #FHUFamily

For students in Freed-Hardeman University’s Personal Financial Planning program, success translates from lessons into the professional world where they have the confidence to begin challenging careers well prepared for what’s ahead. That realization has drawn a growing number of students to the program — and their experiences are fueling remarkable momentum. Over the past 18 months, enrollment has tripled, with 34 students majoring in Personal Financial Planning last fall, reflecting both rising student interest and an increasing demand for qualified financial advisors nationwide. Freed-Hardeman University is honoring the retirements of three longtime faculty members in its College of Education and Behavioral Sciences: Lisa Beene, Dr. Mike Cravens and Dr. Dana Baldwin, whose combined service represents nearly 100 years of dedication to the university. Beene, who has served as chair of the Department of Behavioral Sciences for 29 years, and Cravens each completed 39 years of full-time faculty service at FHU. Baldwin began teaching as an adjunct in 2003 before joining the university full time in 2006. Together, the three faculty members helped shape generations of students while expanding FHU’s behavioral sciences and graduate counseling offerings. As the department enters a new season, several faculty members will assume new leadership roles. Dr. James Dalton has been named chair of the Department of Behavioral Sciences, succeeding Beene. Dr. Nadine McNeal will serve as director of the Doctor of Behavioral Health program, and Dr. Neil Richey has been named director of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. As we thank Beene, Cravens and Baldwin for their years of dedicated service, we look forward to continued growth in the Department of Behavioral Sciences!
