Lake Tahoe is one of the most impressive natural places in California. It sits at about 6,225 feet (1,897 m) in the Sierra Nevada and is one of the deepest lakes in North America, reaching a depth of about 1,645 feet (501 m).
The water is known for its clarity, with visibility often exceeding 70 feet,
The lake is monitored and protected in part by the nonprofit @keeptahoeblue , which has been active since the 1950s and focuses on water quality and limiting overdevelopment.

Office coffee, reimagined.
A recent photoshoot at BrewBird, a startup that has raised $25M to redefine workplace coffee. Its $10K system is already used by Meta, Salesforce, LinkedIn, and Gap.
This is one of my archive images, taken in the late 1980s, showing U.S. warships escorting a convoy of tankers through the Strait of Hormuz during a period when Iran was attacking ships.
With U.S. warships crossing the strait again today amid renewed tensions, history might just repeat itself.
I often hear from tourists how surprised they are to see a yellow school bus on the street, as they tend to think they only exist in movies.
In reality, the vast majority of public school buses in the U.S. are painted a specific color known as “National School Bus Glossy Yellow,” chosen for maximum visibility and safety. This standard was established in 1939 during a seven-day conference organized by Teachers College, Columbia University, where 44 national safety and design standards for school buses were defined.
The color was selected because it is easily detected by the human eye, even in low light, and provides strong contrast with black lettering.
Most school buses are manufactured by companies such as Thomas Built Buses, Blue Bird Corporation, and IC Bus, with bodies typically mounted on chassis from Ford Motor Company, Chevrolet, or Freightliner Trucks.
Volunteers form a human banner on a beach in San Francisco on March 27, 2026. The “No Kings” protests drew thousands of people across the city as part of a nationwide day of action opposing President Donald Trump’s administration. The rallies were among thousands held across the United States, with demonstrators raising concerns about what they describe as threats to free speech, voting rights, and the war in Iran.

I flew my drone over one of the Waymo parking lots in San Francisco. I find the quiet choreography of driverless cars mesmerizing. If you look closely, there isn’t a single human in sight.
Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., develops Level 4 autonomous driving systems. Its vehicles rely on a combination of lidar, radar, and camera sensors, fused in real time to build a detailed 3D understanding of their surroundings. This sensor data is processed by onboard AI systems trained on millions of miles of real-world and simulated driving, enabling fully driverless operation within defined urban areas.
Waymo now operates more than 800 vehicles across the Bay Area, as part of a U.S. fleet exceeding 2,000 robotaxis.
Public parking in San Francisco can be really expensive, especially on a game day. San Francisco is ranked in the top 2 in the U.S. and in the top 5 in the world for cost of living.
