This is my entry for The Singleton of Dufftown 12yo competition:
‘Dolce Far Niente’ - the sweetness of doing nothing
Inspired by slowing down and enjoying the moment, this serve draws on the feeling of a golden-hour spritz shared in Italy - simple, social, and unhurried. It connects Scotland and Italy through flavour, pairing The Singleton’s light, orchard-fruit character with a bright, herbaceous cordial.
The Highland-Tuscan cordial blends heather honey for softness and sweetness with lemon and orange peel for a fresh citrus lift. Thyme and rosemary add a subtle herbal edge to balance the sweetness and complement the whisky.
Serve:
40ml The Singleton 12
25ml Highland-Tuscan cordial
50ml Schweppes soda water
Batch, chill, and serve over ice.
Garnish with a savoury biscuit, lemon pesto, and a sprig of thyme-echoing the Italian aperitivo tradition of pairing drinks with light, flavourful snacks. Designed to be shared, best enjoyed with good company.
