While watching the jackdaws drinking through the window this morning I suddenly spotted one full of red paint. I grabbed the nearby camera and tried to take a shot. Well, I was late but also just in time. No idea which jackdaw it is or what happened but I haven’t seen this before: Maybe some wrong stuff in a nest? Will we get red jackdaw babies? I have a little explainer on why you see a lot less jackdaw pictures lately. It could be because I am a lazy bum and lost my interest and because I am a unpleasant person anyway. But, true or not, that’s not the case. These pictures explain the situation a bit I hope. Crow Ricky-James hangs around for the third year now. This year he has a nest straight in front of my home and now also regards my house as his territory. That is new this year. But of course the jackdaws also still have their nests here and there. During the day there is a lot of chasing away by jackdaws and or crows. Another crow has his territory in the opposite side of the block and the same happens there. So to not make everything more difficult I try not to interfere too much with peanuts and stuff. I do give them fresh water daily which also attracts a lot of pigeons. So these last months I only hang around in the evening when all fighting is mostly done. Or when I know that crow Ricky-James is not in sight. Latest news is that RJ lost one of his kids who left the nest much too young. I can not see any other young at the moment so I am afraid that the breeding is a failure this year. Maybe it gets more quiet. In the pictures you see Ricky James close to the nest of jackdaw Anthony who tries to chase him away together with two other jackdaws.
