I’ve been visited by the team behind Town and Country Magazine to discuss my upbringing, career, and of course, my memoir. We have good news! The book found a publisher and I hope that soon it makes its way into your hands. I am grateful to be able to welcome this wonderful publication into my Roman home, and a big thank you to the Writer-at-Large @jamesnreginato , deputy features editor @adamrathe , and their Editor in Chief @stellenevolandes . The lovely captures are by @jamesmollison . I hope you all go out and pick it up at your local magazine shelves.
For those who asked, the best way to get updates on the memoir release date is to sign up for an email notification on my website, freckvreeland.com.

I’ve heard that Instagram is only for those under the age of 90?
“Rules are boring,” my mother, Diana Vreeland, used to say. Taking that to heart, I’ve always tried to make my own.
Dear Instagram. This is my real profile in which I will share some of my adventures, as urged on by my family and friends. I’ve been encouraged to write a memoir even though I never thought anybody would want to read it and I dislike talking about myself. #mystory #freckvreeland #memoir #94yearsold
#flawsarebeautiful If I had to choose only one piece of advice younger generations can take away from my mother’s legacy, it would be her daring philosophy on beauty and style. She loved highlighting her own and other people's flaws and faults, making them into a thing of beauty.
She said, “Make an asset of your faults. If you’re tall, be taller– wear high heeled shoes. If you have a long neck, be proud of it, don’t try to hunch over. If you have a long nose, hold it up and make it your trademark.” I’ve always thought her words were very good advice, and more relevant than ever these days.
I do admit, I’m slightly taken aback when my wife sometimes tells me I look just like my mother though…

There is an obituary in The Telegraph. I believe Freck would be pleased. Here are a few snippets.

Thank you to everyone who reached out regarding the memoir. The New York Times was erroneous in saying the book is published… we have yet to find a publisher.

Freck Vreeland, an American career diplomat and writer whose final post was U.S. Ambassador to Morocco—and the son of legendary fashion editor Diana Vreeland—died over the weekend in Rome. He was 98.
Born into fashion royalty, Vreeland boarded at Groton, studied at Yale, and befriended a young Jackie Kennedy while the two were newly married in Washington, D.C. He was later recruited by the CIA, beginning a life that spanned diplomacy, espionage, and letters.
At the link in bio, read @jamesnreginato ’s visit with Vreeland in Rome, as published in T&C's March 2025 issue, honoring a remarkable life and career.

There is no end to Mom’s wisdom, as she continues to have influence to this day. If you sought her advice she would tell you to live an authentic and unique life. As hard as it was for me to stand out next to her, I believe I have accomplished just that.

This week Rome paid respect to one of its legendary citizens, Valentino Garavani. Valentino’s relationship with Mom was iconic. Meeting him at the start of his career, she immediately took him under the wing and introduced him to New York. Once she saw the genius in you, she championed you to no end, and she certainly saw the genius in him and his partner Giancarlo Giammetti.

The 98 years of my life include many chapters and lived history. My story is most certainly about a privileged little boy who earned the privilege of having a wonderful, supportive family. From growing up with a resolute mother that you all know as Diana Vreeland, to being a part of the CIA’s beginnings, to my work in foreign service for thirty-three years under eight presidents, to finally finishing the last chapter in Rome where I was lucky to find love again. I learned early on that we are all connected.
Through it all I was lucky enough to be consistently inspired by Mom’s magical thinking and positive outlook on life.
