Working plein air, on ground and off stretcher, it’s fulfilling and a bit thrilling to see the works stretched and on walls. Having the working surface of the canvas wrap around hard edges and sharply end into the wall - turn what was a very flat surface into a continuous object, giving the work added depth. The painting on the sides is as important for the work as on the front plane.
Also super happy with the deep green chosen for the feature wall in the booth. Thanks to both @framesbydaniel and @aaltopaint for impressive finishes.
The work is now up at the Aotearoa Art Fair, opening tomorrow. Can’t wait to share.

Such a pleasure carving this magnificent botanical work for a local Gin company 🙌🏼 all will be revealed later this year. My aim was to keep this classic and timeless representing the gin ingredients with some artistic license. Grapefruit zest, juniper, coriander seed, orris root (iris), angelica root, chamomile flowers, mānuka leaf and giant kelp. Choosing cream, terracotta and greens to go under a light apricot topcoat. I adore all the details in this piece and really enjoyed creating different techniques for all the botanical textures!
