Secret Lair Alert - New Font: Kodachrome 📸
“Mama don’t take my Kodachrome away.” - Rhymin’ Simon
When Paul Renner released Futura in 1927, do you think he knew it would still be so fashionably in use 99 years later? He might have had a clue after the first decade or two, as it spawned a slew of similar faces from Tempo to Spartan to Twentieth Century to Airport and more. As we dove into many of these specimens, one of the things that stood out was Spartan and Airport’s heaviest weight—Black. It goes harder and heavier than Futura’s Extra Bold and we fell head over heels. Our world turned to full color—Kodachrome if you will.
This is not an exact recreation of those families, though, as we sought to capture much of their spirit and bring it into our modern context. The geometry is plain to see, but more than a few quirks keep it from feeling dull or generic. The lighter weights can set cleanly at small sizes, and the heavier weights have a cast-metal heft built for headlines, logotype, and signage.
Nine weights from Thin to Black are currently available in the Secret Lair, with italics, a variable version, and more coming with its public release.

Take Scenic or take Route or take the Scenic Route!
Scenic started from our love of specimens of Digiset—one of the earliest digital typefaces created. From there, its design was informed by modern grotesks and geometric styles. One of the things we loved about Digiset was the different sets found across the family. Just a few alternate letters could change up the entire feel. We decided to take that approach here: Scenic leans more into its grotesk heritage while Route leans more toward its geometric background.
Take the Route less travelled. You’ll love what you see.
