Formline Architecture & Urbanism along with Chevalier Morales Architects and Architecture49 are proud to share progress photos from the New Saskatoon Library. The project continues to advance, but the exposed mass timber structure deserves the spotlight—revealing the scale, rhythm, and warmth of the primary structural system. Soon, these spaces will support a vibrant public interior shaped by light, movement, and everyday use. The Shq'apthut (A Gathering Place) at Vancouver Island University is dedicated to serve the First Nations students, elders and broader community and to accommodate post-secondary support and cultural functions. The design of The Gathering Place holistically integrates sustainable strategies such as, Geothermal energy, rain water collection and a green roof while respecting traditional order and organization. The building draws its inspiration from the Pre-European Coast Salish Longhouse, orientating the building along a North-South Axis with its sacred entrance facing east. It was a great event at the UBC Alumni Centre, and I am grateful for receiving the Dean's Medal of Honour. I caught up with Dr. Ray Cole, Sherry McKay, and Marten Neilson. Congratulations also to James Seabrook, Alfred Waugh, Carol Park, Jason Sangha, and Donald Choi.

Today we are announcing an important milestone in the Gallery’s renewed vision to create a destination for art and culture that reflects the diversity of our audiences. Following a rigorous, months-long search, the Vancouver Art Gallery has named Formline Architecture + Urbanism (@formlinearchitecture ) and KPMB Architects (@kpmbarch ) as the architectural team to lead the next phase of design for its new purpose-built home at Larwill Park, located at 181 West Georgia Street. Selected from proposals submitted by 14 leading Canadian firms, this decision marks the beginning of a collaborative process toward a new conceptual design in 2026, one shaped by listening, dialogue and the perspectives of the communities the Gallery serves. We look forward to sharing updates as the project develops! Learn more at www.vanartgallery.bc.ca/future.

“The selection of Formline + KPMB to envision the new Gallery is a bold and topical statement supporting Canadian innovation and excellence,” says Jon Stovell, Chair of the Gallery Association Board. “KPMB Architects brings a proven track record for creating elegant, world-class museums that centre art and community, while BC–based Formline Architecture + Urbanism leads with an Indigenous design vision that is both contemporary and deeply rooted in tradition.”     Sirish Rao and Eva Respini, Interim Co-CEOs of the Gallery, share their thoughts on the opportunities ahead with this new partnership: “The Vancouver Art Gallery is the cultural memory keeper of British Columbia and holds a unique position in the Pacific Northwest. This is the largest cultural infrastructure project in Vancouver in over 30 years, and we are thrilled to partner with Formline + KPMB to work towards a Gallery that supports storytelling, convening, innovation and access to art and ideas.”    We look forward to sharing updates as the project develops! Learn more at www.vanartgallery.bc.ca/future. . . .
