This soft robotic tentacle, designed by â¨@itsonmym was printed as a single part on a Formlabs Form 4 resin 3D printer using Silicone 40A. Soft robotics engineers use 3D printing and Silicone 40A to create complex internal geometries - like pressure channels - printed in one piece, with no molds or post-assembly engineering required. When pressurized, those internal chambers steer the tentacle in any direction.

Silicone casting has never been so satisfying, or so transparent.
By 3D printing molds in Formlabs Clear Resin on the Form 4, engineers can ensure silicone fills every tiny detail without any trapped air bubbles.
The cast silicone part is a protective mask for automotive shock tubes, used to shield critical areas during the coating process. By using a 3D printed mold, they can cast and test prototypes in the real world before spending thousands to machine permanent factory tools.
